I'm sure there are lots of lists and websites set up just for that
Byard, just use a search engine and put in "biggest pecker", and if you
don't end up at a bird watching site, probably you'll fond what you are
looking for. (We have piliated woodpeckers in our backyard, and they are
huge, and sound like Woody-woodpecker when they call, too)...

And since we are discussing "birds"... as for testosterone soaked
peacocks, I'm sorry to say, we also have about two dozen of them in our
backyard also, and I'd love to soak them in something, like maybe
gasoline! One of our neighbors, who thinks they are running a petting
zoo (personally, I think it is more like a passport to some barnyard (as
opposed to byard ;-)) disease, but that's just my opinion) decided to
get some peacocks (and peahens) a few years back. Well, our winters are
pretty mild (in fact, the damn peacocks don't seem to mind it when it
snows, anyway)... well, as peacocks and peahens tend to do... they bred,
and before we knew it, we had literally about two dozen of the buggers
roosting on our roof, fouling the sidewalks and patio, waking us up at 4
AM with their strangled cat (male) and football game trumpet (female)
sounding calls, and knocking over fences and flowerpots, and eating our
flower and veggie gardens to the ground.

Of course, they also eat all the birdseed we put out for the wild birds.

Well, it's "chick" season again, and all animal control offered me when
I finally complained is a permit to shoot the buggers which I won't do
(yet!). He lived in another neighborhood that had/has them and he
referred to them as "the biggest pains in the a** in the bird kingdom".

Our other neighbors are no happier about this. At least if the people
who first brought them here offered us a few bags of tail feathers every
year (the peacocks molt them), but no, we get all the grief and no
advantage... in fact, because we are on a nice forested land here, and
our neighbors with the "petting zoo" live on what is basically a mud
flat, guess where the peacocks prefer to hang out? But for some reason
then rarely leave a feather behind, just a load of cra*.

Well, that's all the "bird" stories I have today.

By the way, I've made some really interesting scans with peacock
feathers (true story), and some peacock images do sell well....
