Welcome to the "Schizomania" and "Penturbia" Book Discussion Group!
These books by Professor Jack Lessinger explore the four very different versions of the 'Standard American Dream' that have happened so far, and the fifth that is quickly coming to power now. These periodic replacements of the 'Standard American Dream' are culture changes and are named "ruling manias" in these books.
If you thought today's consumer culture of 'get it all now, pay for it later' has been around forever and is going to go on forever, you're in for a pleasant surprise.
Lessinger has nicknamed the current consumer ruling mania the "Little Kings". It began in 1900 in reaction to the excesses of the previous ruling mania called the "Colossus" which valued saving, building for the future, and considered flagrant consumption to be disgraceful. Talk about an outlook change!
Now it appears that a new ruling mania is quickly overtaking the Little Kings. It was born in reaction to the overconsumption and irresponsibility of the little kings. This new culture is called the Responsible Villager.
The Responsible Villagers value ecological responsibility and repair, community, social justice and sustainability. According to these books, this new ruling mania will conquer and replace the Little Kings within the next 20 years.
The Little Kings migrated from the big city strongholds of the Colossus to the newly invented suburbia. According to "Penturbia" the rise of the Responsible Villagers will include a rapid migration out of the suburbs to previously unpopular counties in America.

Thanks for responding Phil. We have very opposite views of the reality of CO2 induced climate change, but that's OK since this list really isn't for that
Concern for the environment is a good thing. However, using "carbon footprint" is misleading and focuses mainly on only one component of environmental impact -
