Housing bust halts growing suburbs
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2009-11-19-suburbs_N.htm
By Haya El Nasser, USA TODAY

The recession and housing collapse have halted four decades of double-digit
growth for nearly half of the nation's biggest rapidly expanding suburbs.
Twenty-four of the 53 cities of 100,000 or more that grew by at least 10%
every decade since 1970 lost population in the last two years.

The 2010 Census will reveal whether new bedroom communities are emerging at
the far edges of metropolitan areas or if growth will occur in older boomburbs
that transform into more urbanized centers. "This could signal a transition to a
new more urban America," Lang says.

When I read this part of his article I saw the big X on Lessingers graphs of the
changing American Dreams. The declining Little King being crossed by the risinf
Responsible Capitalist line which marks the beginning of the Schizomania
period...

Here is a link to the article and a short snippet from it's final paragraphs:
http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/blogs/robert_reich/2009/07/when-will-t\
he-recovery-begin-n.php

" My prediction, then? Not a V, not a U. But an X. ... The X marks a brand new
track -- a new economy. What will it look like? Nobody knows. All we know is the
current economy can't "recover" because it can't go back to where it was before
the crash. So instead of asking when the recovery will start, we should be
asking when and how the new economy will begin. "
