Dear SCIPsters - I hope some of you can come to this dialogue event -
the last event was very deep and profoundly heart warming. Ian
From Isolation to Community:
Working together on issues of marginalisation, isolation and
violence in our community
Date December 4th 08 Venue
Brighthelm Community Centre
Time 6.30pm-9.30pm (with snacks and refreshments)
This Forum is open to all who are interested. It is part of our
programme, Doorways to Diversity: Processing concerns around Race,
Religion and Diversity. We will be continuing to explore themes that
were raised at the two-day event in October. However this Forum also
stands alone and you do not need to have attended the previous event
to be able to fully participate. The event in October was introduced
with the line:
"Dharti' or (mother) earth taking in the violence of our times, but
still pointing skywards in a gesture of hope" *
Hope emerging out of hopelessness was one note on which the group
ended in October.
Themes that emerged:
Following on with themes from the October event, this forum provides
an opportunity to work together on how we can deal with issues of
marginalisation, isolation and violence in our community in Brighton
and Hove and beyond. While we are a vibrant, socially active, and
friendly city, marginalisation and a sense of aloneness, which is
linked to violence, are central issues here as they are across the
world. Isolation is a problem very close to home, in our own hearts,
within and between organisations and in our communities. Isolation
is often linked to prejudice and marginalisation based on race,
religion gender, sexual orientation, disability and more. We will
focus on the outer issues of violence, and on our working
relationships with one another and in how we support social
engagement. What is needed to transform the `ice' of isolation into
the river of community? How can we work together, beyond the
separation of us and them?
Open Forum
-is a space for processing community issues. We can expect strong
emotions to arise and be supported. Forums give us a structured
space to listen to each other, hear stories, and work together in
relationship through critical moments. Experienced facilitators will
support this process and our potential to use our own knowledge,
wisdom and eldership and to discuss next steps.
Process Work (PW)
Process work is a cross disciplinary approach to individual and
collective change. It provides a framework where individuals and
groupscan connect with greater awareness and creativity. Forums use
Process Work approach which supports `Deep Democracy': e.g.welcoming
and supporting what is emerging - whether hot or cool, intellectual
or feeling, personal or political, as needed parts of thewhole.
Facilitators will assist in deepening dialogue, for example,
when `hot spots', or areas of tension emerge, knowing these
needspecial care, and are potential doorways towards greater
understanding, connection, and
cooperation.www.worldwork.org/processwork.html
