I have Haoda's and LOVE IT!!!!!
My first experience with a SLR was many years ago in my teens.
Almost all cameras had the split screen. Very few had auto focus. I
got used to it very fast. Now in my fourties I have recently revived
this hobby and I really miss the split screen. I can never tell how
well focused I really am. In low light forget about it. I thought my
eyes were going bad until I read about others with the same problem
on this forum.

I bought Haoda's screen for the 20D and Love it. It installed in
about 5 minutes. Cheaper than Cats Eye, and no wait. Cat's Eye is
back ordered for high lum version. Haoda was very responsive and
easy to do bussiness with. Haoda sells these on Ebay and he has a
yahoo group that you may need to join. (It's free to join)

Just for the record I have never met Haoda. I do not profit in any
way from posting this. I just wanted to share my expierence with
members of this forum, as they have been generious sharing their
experience with me.

The split screen has changed the way I use my camera. I no longer
worry about focus as I can tell in an instant if I'm focused
properly. I can now concentrate on proper exposure etc..

I just got my Haoda split-screen.
I installed it (easy project) had to adjust it (easy also) and I
must say SO FAR... I'm EXTREMELY pleased!! It's BRIGHT!! How
bright... well let's just say to my eye... it's surely is not dimmer
than the OEM screen. Does it work? Oh yeah... it works... it works
great!

Give me a day or two and I'll give a detailed review on this
product. Right now, I'm going to go give it a 'shake down run'. ;-)

What more do you want? I said in a earlier post that I would be the
Guinea pig and buy and test the cheapest screen. I've been using
split-image screens for over 30 plus years. I have an Minolta xd-11
sitting on my desk that I bought when it was a brand new 'HOT' item,
that I love to pick up and ratchet the film advance and focus with
the split-image microprism screen. I know what a split-image screen
is suppose to look like and how it's suppose to work. You can take
my word on that or not... makes no difference to me, I have nothing
to gain by posting this. Just giving information on what I know to
maybe help others on here.

With that being said, the screen that I paid $75 for from Haoda and
installed in my 20d... works just like it's suppose to. It gives you
miroprisms that WORK..... it gives you a split-image that WORKS
(dead nuts, right on the money) Brightness?? Well that's something
that is subjective to one's eye... all I can say is.. It seems
brighter than the OEM to my eye, but I can't prove that so take that
for what it's worth.

If there was a screen out there for $50, that's would be the one I
would be typing about (good or bad) RIGHT NOW.

So would I recommend Haoda's screen as a functioning, microprism
split-image screen... yes I can. Is it any better or worst than
anyother 3rd party screen? Don't know, don't care because it does
what it's suppose to do and I'm very satisfied with that.

I received the split screen for my 20D on Friday, but didn't have
the time to install it until this morning. The install is very
simple - I used a pair of tweezers with tape on the tips in order to
prevent scratching the screen. I removed the original screen and the
copper shim, following the 300D instructions, and installed the new
screen.
I attached my Zeiss 135mm 3.5 lens and was impressed how much easier
this made manual focusing - and the screen is at least as bright as
the original.
I would recommend this screen to anyone thinking of using manual
focusing, or who has a problem with front or rear focus problems -
this screen will help you ensure that the focal point is sharp.
Thanks Haoda

I received it and got it installed and it works great - only my
tweezers slipped and scratched it so there's an annoying line on it
now. Oops! Thanks! I may order another one soon but haven't
decided yet.

Today (Monday 11th) the screen arrived. I deployed a desklamp, put
on cotton gloves, grabbed the tweezers and changed the screens over
nice and slow. I followed the PDF file of instructions from Haoda's
yahoo site. The instructions were for the 300D, but the 10D turned
out to be exactly the same.

Its an easy job, though I have some experience in fax repair,
scanner servicing. If you take it slow and careful, and observe how
the original part comes out, it helps bigtime -- really observe the
nooks and cutouts and orientations ; note which way the original
screen is facing. One side of thescreen is matte, one side glossy.
Glossy is closest to the mirror. Pull the brassy shim and store it
with the original screen in a plastic CF card case/carry box.

I put on my 50mm and turned on the camera. The first time I looked I
was hooked.
Its definitely brighter, the split is great, you can see the focus
adjusting and locking. Press the *, watch it move slightly... etc

The split screen is even a bit sentimental to someone like me used
to Olympus OM-1 (they have the IMAX of 35mm viewfinders....) and it
does remind me of the first 70's model K1000 too.

So far so good, and if it wasn't late evening and it wasn't for an
early start work tomorrow, I'd take some pix... see you later with
more impressions. Tomorrow I'm expecting my 135L to arrive from
Singapore too.

---------------------

Hey, Haoda - the shipping lacks a certain degree of professionalism -
- the ziplock bag is not substantial enough. Not a good initial
impression for customers!
So please ship the screens in a hard container like the CF card case.

I first used a SLR in my teens many years ago. All cameras back then
had split screens and very few had auto focus. I just recently got
back into photography. I always had a hard time telling when my shot
was in good focus!! I own a 20D and I especially had a hard time
determining sharp focus in dim light. Haoda's split screen was
exactly
what I was looking for. Installation was very straight forward (takes
less than 10 minutes for a first time installer). Haoda provided
prompt delivery, (4 bussiness days). He also answered all questions
in
a timely manner, usually within 30 minutes via e-mail!!!
Thanks Haoda for a great, reasonably priced product.

I'm Deanster from the DP-forum (20D)I just got the Haoda's screen and
installed it. So far, I'm extremely pleased with this product. I'm a
long time user of split-image screens in my 35mm cameras and missed
it
very much when I switched to digital several years ago. My main
interest in the split-image screen is to aide me in manual focusing.
I
just can't get a 'perfect' focus with the regular focusing screen,
this will really help me.

The screen is BRIGHT! Is it brighter than the OEM screen? Seems like
it but I can't prove it so I would say that with my eyes... it's not
any dimmer, I can see just fine and I have bad eyes.

The tests I took so far show that the SPLIT is accurate. It's also
easy to tell if your lens's auto-focusing is accurate too, which is a
plus for me because that isn't the reason I bought it.

As time goes on, I'll put more data up here of how's the screen is
working for me. I need to test the metering some more, so far, I'm
haven't noticed any change.

Do I recommend Haoda's Split-Image Focusing Screen? YES I DO.

I've been using Haoda screen on my Canon 20D for a couple of days now
and I am still very happy with his product. I haven't found any
metering problems so far with the new screen. I must say that this
split-image screen has taken a good camera and made it 'perfect' for
me.

If anybody wants a split-image screen, I can truthfully recommend
Haoda's screen

I've posted a very preliminary test of the screen here. Time to go
to bed. But so far, so good. More tests later, as well as a review
of the installation process.

I can say this: after seeing what it can do today, I wish I had it
yesterday when I was photographing far-away beasties. It would have
been great.
