2" diagonal + focal reducer on 8se   Message List

RE: [sct-user] Re: 2" diagonal + focal reducer on 8se

The f/r does fine with 2-inch eyepieces until you get down to about 30mm
(even then, I OFTEN use with with my 35 Pan...yes, it does vignette, but I
can get almost the entire Pleiades in the field). The .63 is not inherently
a "1.25-inch device"...

;-)

Celestron corrected this deficiency on the newer 8SE's by including a short
dovetail plate and rail as part of the OEM package. If you have a newer SE
then clearance should not be a problem. Vignetting however may be (as I
think Geoff pointed out to you) since the .63 r/c is a 1.25" device. Can't
say for sure since I've never tried the combination you describe.

What I can say in certainty though is that _without_ the r/c, you will
appreciate the views through an 8" cat and 2" eyepieces. Functionally you'll
still be limited by the 1.5" prox baffle tube, but esthetically it is a
whole new viewing experience compared to similar focal length 1.25"
eyepieces...a marvelous upgrade in my opinion.
