Hello Future Salonistas,
I am excited to report that Vernor Vinge has accepted our invitation
to come speak on March 25th at 6 pm at the Barnes & Noble in Mira
Mesa!!! He came & spoke with us a while back & was one of the most
engaging speakers we've had. On this last Sunday of the month (our new
standard meeting day), he'll be giving a talk he has already presented
once at SDSU earlier this February:
What If the Singularity Does NOT Happen
He presents several possible scenarios. I was happy to see his
disclaimer on the web:
>"Important note for those surfing this talk out of context :-) I still
>regard the Singularity as the most likely non-catastrophic outcome
>for our near future."
Whew!
& I'm also impressed that Vernor, putative father of the term
"singularity" , has the openness and flexibility of mind even to
consider these alternative scenarios. If, somehow, you are a futurist
who has not heard of the fabulous, forward-thinking, mathematician and
science fiction author Vernor Vinge, please just google him. One good
talk he gave at our parent organization' s conference is at:

Please come join us to hear what this celebrated author has to say on
a very futurist topic! Please also consider purchasing one of his
books at our Barnes & Noble. I bet he'll even autograph it for you if
you ask him nicely. :) I bought his new "Rainbows End" a few months
back & it was a page-turner!
