Friday May 6th at 7pm, we have
Elaine Weidenhammer, PhD of Nanogen, (http://www.nanogen.com/)
to speak on Personalized Medicine.
Dr. Elaine Weidenhammer received a B.A. from Johns
Hopkins University and went on to pursue her graduate
thesis in molecular biology at Carnegie Mellon
University in Pittsburgh, PA. Subsequently, Elaine
accepted a postdoctoral position at the UCSD School of
Medicine. In February 1998, she transitioned into
industry by becoming a Research Scientist at Nanogen,
a San Diego biotechnology company that has developed
electronic microarrays ("chips") for use in clinical
diagnostics. Elaine spent the next four years
developing gene _expression and genotyping
applications on the NanoChip® microarray, and saw the
company grow from an R&D focused enterprise of fifty
people to a diagnostic instrumentation and reagent
supplier of almost 200 people. Elaine has spent the
past two years in Business Development at Nanogen,
where she provides technical expertise to Nanogen's
strategic development efforts and coordinates external
research collaborations.
