"Suite" is the new name for the traditional SDLX/Trados pair.

The current version of SDLX is Build 7080, with SP3. I'm afraid you're going to
have to reinstall -- I can't help you, I didn't bother to reinstall SDLX and CS4
in the proper order.

Best,
Esther

       Dear Group,

I can't generate my translation with my SDLX 2007 SP2 on PC, even after trying
Esther's solution, which always work BTW normally, ie use Exchange and use
Trados.

I did not re-segment, joined or do any other boo-boo despised by InDesign.

The only 2 other things thing I did not do:

1. install the new patches from Translation zone as my version is SDLX
Freelance, not Suite, and those were only for Suite right?

2. Reinstall SDLX after my install of CS4 as apparently SP2 did not have those
filters anyway.

I am using an INX file for this project with Project Wizard.

Here is the message I get:

Dear All,

the answers I have received to this question have not really made the issue
any clearer to me. The combination of SDL Trados 2007 (SP2), Office 2007 and
Windows 7 seems to work for some people, but not for others. It seems to me
there are no clear rules when it will work or not. So I am still uncertain.

   Hi Véro,

   No, you didn't dream :-)

However, this is only possible for delimited text files. So you need to copy
the required columns to a Text editor, save as tab-delimited txt, and then
import this file via Project Wizard (using the "Generic Delimited" filter).
During import, you can specify what column contains the source, the target and
the tooltips. I *think* you need to insert a third empty column for your
translation before importing to SDLX, at least when you want the output txt file
to be bilingual. At the end just paste your translation column back to Excel.

   Hope this helps,
   Stefan

Hello all,

I am exporting Excel files as ITDs with SDL Trados 2007 Freelance SP2 (on
Windows XP pro). I need to translate only one column, but another column
contains important information for the translator (mood of the character for a
script file).
I thought it was possible to include this info column as a tooltip when
exporting the xls file, so that the translator wouldn't have to refer to the
original Excel sheet all the time.
Did I just dream/wish it or is it really possible? I cannot find anything about
it in the Wizard Help.

Thanks a lot for your input.

That's what I had thought. I had installed the RC of W7 and tried using SDL
Trados 2008. It said it installe and even activated but I could not find the
menu anywhere, so disgustedly I removed W7 and will not install it unless it is
absolutely necessary, if and when that happens. I have enough trouble with the
existing setup. I don't like the Studio at all; at least in the Word interface,
I had the option to enlarge the view, especially for footnotes and items in
headers etc which go below 8 point typeface. The auto-translate facility is no
great shakes, either. For an approximate translation, Google Translate is good
enough. Wordfast also has G Translate integrated in it, apart from Wf
Anywhere. Chandu Kale

       Hello, Cornelia

I currently use, with no glitch, SDLX FL 2007 under Windows Vista Premium

Since Windows 7 seems to be an enhanced version of Vista, there should be

no problem running SDLX/Trados under it.

Maybe you should consult SDL or the Knowledge base at www.talisma. sdl.com

Good luck

Bruno

Dear All,

I would like to buy a new PC in the next few months. At that time I would
also like to purchase Window 7 and Office 2007. For Trados I am happily
working with SDL Trados 2007 (SDL Trados Synergy 8.2.132.0) Freelance. I do
not particularly want to upgrade to SDL Studio 2009, not least of all
because I have heard that you can no longer work with a Word interface, but
that everything effectively runs via a TagEditor interface (which I don't
like as much).
Does anyone know whether I can use my current Trados version on Windows 7 or
which Freelance version I would be able to use (I seem to remember that
there is a lower Studio version that came out since I purchased my last
upgrade)?

I have not really been able to find information on that on the Trados
website (which I don't find very user friendly).

Thank you for any feedback anyone might have.

I don't think the exact version is relevant, but I chose Ultimate. It's the
same as Professional, with two additional features: bitlocker (google it) and
the possibility of changing the language of the interface. -- that might be of
interest to translators. The difference between the two versions is $20 so why
not? I got the same Ultimate for all my computers.

To sum up my experience with the Windows 7 Ultimate installation from XP Pro,
that is, a clean install:

   1. Win7 32-bit on a five-year old P4 with 4 GB of RAM:

It's unbelievable, like getting a brand new computer. If you have a PC with a
decent single processor (3GHZ+), upgrade your RAM to 4 GB (it's dirt-cheap now
and fairly easy to do yourself) and install Win7 immediately. You won't have to
consider buying a new computer for a while.

   2. Win7 on a high-end laptop

   The Win7
installation disk identified an imminent disk failure. I had and still have no
symptoms, I'm wrinting on that laptop right now and will continue using it until
the Dell tech comes in to replace it on warranty.

   3. Win7 (Ultimate!) on a 10" netbook with minimal processor and RAM and
without an external DVD-drive. All fine.

   4. Win 7 64-bit on a powerful desktop

No problem installing and using SDL/Trados (installed as 32-bit, no 64-bit
version exists) but lots of little freezes and crashes of the system in general
(google bugs freezes "windows 7" "64 bit").

   5. Win 7 32-bit on the same powerful desktop: superb.

   Best,
   Esther

No, it's simply that I normally prefer a more interactive way of contacting

But I'll definitely use the form.

Hi Jorge,

If you have a support contract then you will have telephone numbers for all the
offices in every country they have a support office, although you are encouraged
to log a case first so that all the details are available when you follow up.

If you don't have one then you are given an opportunity to complete a form and
you will be contacted. This is how the support team gets your details into
their support system with the details they need. Is there any reason why you
can't use the form?

Regards

Paul

Thank you, Paul.

However, is there any other way to contact SDL support other than filling
forms? I mean, do they have any e-mail address to which one can write
directly, as other software vendors have?

Ester,

Thanks for the update. I've been asking everyone around about Win 7 and SDL
Trados. Your information is very helpful. Which Win 7 version did you use? Home,
Professional, Ultimate?

Hi Jorge,

Use the solution finder like this;

http://talisma.sdl.com

Then go the the tab called Solution Finder and now go here;

Licensing Problems
- My software runs in demo mode only, or Activation/Licensing does not work.
- - Activation Code
- - - I cannot return my activation code.
- - - - I get an error message when I click on Return License.

This will bring up a form that you can fill in to generate a support request and
you will be contacted, normally within a day.

I hope this helps

Regards

Paul

Perhaps somebody here could guide me about how to contact SDL in order to return
a license after formatting a hard disk, so I can activate again the newly
reinstalled SDL Trados 2007.

I own a permanent license for SDL Trados 2007, which I use in my production
machine, a desktop computer.

Until recently I had also an activated copy of SDL Trados running in a notebook,
which I normally use during the weekends, so I mostly kept in the notebook the
programs that I mostly use, but very few data. (I only transfer to the notebook
the data that I need to have at a given moment to be further processed, normally
during weekends, and then this data is transfered back to my desktop PC.)

Recently I had an undetected problem, perhaps a virus, that only allowed me to
start the notebook in Safe Mode, otherwise it crashed during booting.

As I mostly don't keep data there, I decided to be somewhat drastic and
re-format the hard disk so as to install Windows from scratch, but completely
forgot at the time about the licensing procedure used by SDL. So, when I now
installed back SDL Trados, I cannot activate it because SDL assumes that this is
a third request for activation (SDLX can be activated only in the main computer
and additionally in another machine, provided it is not used at the same time in
both, I think, at least this is how it worked until recently.)

Therefore, I would need to know how to contact SDL support (at what e-mail
address) because otherwise I am stuck. (I am not familiar with contacting SDL
support, and I seem to remember that contact addresses had changed over time,
this is why I need some assistance about this issue.)

Thanks in advance for your information.

Jorge

I installed Win 7 64-bit and I'm sorry to report it's
not ready for prime time.
Thanks to the fact that I had installed Win 32-bit on
a P4, I can see the difference between the two versions.
There are no problems with SDLX/Trados in Win 7 64-bit. They install
as 32-bit applications (in the x86 folder) and run smoothly. I don't know about
Multiterm, I never use it.

My problem with Win 7 64-bit is the platform. It's
like being taken back in time to the days of Windows 2000 – though to be
fair, it doesn't suffer total freezes and crashes, just lots of partial ones.

I'll uninstallWin 7 64-bitand wait for the SP1 or even perhaps
SP2. In the meantime I'll install Win 7 32-bit, which is
really beautiful, stable and incredibly fast and easy to install.

If you get the upgrade, you automatically get both
versions (32-bit and 64-bit) in the box. The reason for this is that the 64-bit
is worth nothing at all, it's just a beta. But if you want to try both before
settling for one, just make sure not to activate immediately. You have 30 days
to
do so.

One more thing: some of my problems (but not all) may
arise from the fact that I share a lot of files between XP Pro 32-bit and the
Win7 64-bit install, including settings. I don't think it's a good idea.

All in all, my only – small -- regret is rushing to
upgrade my RAM from 4 to 8 GB to try the 64-bit.

My system is the following:
   Dell Precision WorkStation 390
Total amount of system memory 8.00 GB RAM
   System type 64-bit operating system
   Number of processor cores 2 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU X6800 @ 2.93GHz
NVIDIA Quadro FX 3450/4000 SDI (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM)

Hi all --

Here's another update on Win7. Yesterday I installed it successfully on a little
netbook with 1GB of RAM and a 1.6GHZ Atom processor.

More detailed information:

1. I could upgrade (pay less) without any problems from XP Home to Windows 7
Ultimate.
2. I don't have an external CD/DVD drive. I copied the contents of the disk to a
USB key (a 4GB because the total is just a bit over 2GB and I didn't want to
pick and choose the install files).
3. For a USB install, you need to prepare a formatted partition to point to when
Windows asks you where to install Win7. It won't do any partitioning and/or
formatting unless you boot from the installation disk.

I didn't install SDLX because I wouldn't work on the netbook but I'm sure there
wouldn't be any problems.

Next up, the installation of Win7 64-bit on my workstation. By the way,
yesterday I tried to install it on my mobile workstation (as Dell calls its
high-end laptops) and Win7 wouldn't install because it said my disk was about to
fail. I ran diagnostics and sure enough the disk has fatal flaws, it will be
replaced by Dell. I'd rather discover it in this context than away from home
with nothing to fall back on (except the tiny netbook).

Bye!
Esther

Great to hear good news. I might get brave and upgrade to Windows 7 if I
hear more good news like yours.

Subject: [SDLX] Update: SDLX , Studio and Windows 7

Hi all --

Since the list is very quiet, it seems a good time to offer an update.

First, after trying real hard and in good faith to get used to Studio 2009,
I've decided to wait til the next version (not just SP2) to see if it's
worth changing from SDLX. I've deleted all my "upgraded" Studio memories and
I'm not trying anymore.

I was thinking perhaps I was just resisting change in my old age. But no!!!
Now I know that it's not so.

Yesterday I installed the brand new Windows 7 and I fell in love with it.
I'm upgrading all my computers from XP to Windows 7.

The first install was on my most expandable desktop, a fairly old Dell XPS
Gen 4 with a 3.4 P4 and 3G of RAM.
Prior to installing the new system, I ran Windows 7 Upgrade
Advisor(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1b544e90-76
59-4bd9-9e51-2497c146af15
<http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1b544e90-7659-4bd9
-9e51-2497c146af15&displaylang=en> &displaylang=en) that it was ok. And it
was.

Windows finds and installs all the drivers for your display, your sound
card, your network adapter, etc. and it sets up your network. You literally
have nothing to do. The computer has found a new youth. It's much faster
now, I can't explain why. It boots fasters, opens applications faster and
it's a real pleasure to explore and customize.

SDLX runs beautifully (it somehow changes its interface into a more
chromelike one). The default dashboard is still very ugly, but try my skin
by downloading it from the group's
files(http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/sdlx/files/). The file is called
Esther_Skin.ssx. You load it from the main dashboard > Tools > Options >
Switchboard tab, and then the button at the lower right, 'Change display
settings". You press the 'Load' button on the next screen and you browse to
where you saved the downloaded skin. Or, now that you're at the
customization screen, you design your own dashboard skin.

Bye!
Esther

Hi All,

To use Vista with the XP Pro configuration:

Using the mouse, go to the Windows logo (Start) in the lower left corner; right
click on the Windows logo; left click on Properties; Start Menu tab click on
Classic Start Menu, then click on Apply; then click on OK.

Carlos

Is it easy for you to let us know how you configured Vista to work as XP Pro?
Could you give as some references or web sites where we can find more info about
that?

I also have similar problems with the other product of the suite: TRADOS
TagEditor.

Many thanks!

Hi P.,

Create an SDLX-TM from your ITD > Open it in SDLMaintain > Export it as "File
list to Trados", TMX file, etc. > Import this in your Trados TM. Done.

Alternatively:

Use the "Exchange" utility of SDLX: Use "Convert SDLX to TagEditor > Use the
created TTX file to update your memory... Done.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Rainer

I understand that itd files are handled in SDLX only and not in TagEditor. Is it
correct? Since the source and target text was visible on screen, I edited it
without using any interface of Trados. Now, I want to add the contents of this
file to my translation memory as it will be useful if I need to translate

Hello friends,
I have Trados 7.0, Win XP, Office 2003. I use Workbench and TagEditor and I
don't use SDLX.

I got a bilingual itd file for the purpose of editing from one of my clients. I
understand that itd files are handled in SDLX only and not in TagEditor. Is it
correct? Since the source and target text was visible on screen, I edited it
without using any interface of Trados. Now, I want to add the contents of this

similar matter in future. Therefore, when I tried to clean it through
Workbench to add the source as well as the target text to memory, I was not able
to do so and it read that these type of files are not supported. Could you
please inform me what should I do?

Hi Rainer,

I was trying to do same thing I used to do with SDLX and XP Pro but it stops too
often. I configured Vista to work as XP pro and the problem is gone.

Thanks so much for your help.

Hi Carlos,

We are using the same combination (SDLTrados 2007 Prof. and Vista) and although
we have problems with the various Office file types (PPT, PPTX, DOCX, etc. do
not merge properly) we haven't experienced the problem you describe. What
exactly are you trying to do?

Best regards,

Rainer
