How does cleaning up oil spills by dumping products strong in 2-butoyethanol affect our sea life? Maybe there is a better way to clean up oil spills

In 1989 there was an effort to save the sea otters and baby seals who were harmed by the oil spilled from the Ex-xon Valdez. Many volunteers may have paid for their graciousness with their lives. Some information on what happened to the workers

including the November 5, 2001 LA Times article. Some thoughts on loss of 80% of the herring of Prince William Sound in Alaska in 1993 may have been from the cleanup chemicals used. Photo is 'Slice of Life' an original quilt, by Cordova resident, Dr. Riki Ott, biologist. It represents Prince William Sound as it was prior to the Ex-xon Valdez oil spill. It is entitled "Slice of Life" and was purchased for the Valdez Museum by the Friends of the Valdez Museum. It can be seen there today.

Riki Ott, PhD, is an independent environmental researcher and writer in Cordova, Alaska. The former commercial fisher“m’am” in Prince William Sound, Alaska, has co-founded three nonprofit organizations, all to deal with the lingering social, economic, and environmental harm from the Ex-xon Valdez oil spill.

She graduated from Colby College (BS, 1976),
the University of South Carolina (MS, 1980),
and the University of Washington (PhD, 1985).

She has lived in Cordova, Alaska, for 20 years.

It is good to think about what is happening to us, and the environment. If we 'brain storm' together, the end result will be better than if we 'stand alone' AND maybe we can convince our fellow man to take better care of us all!
