I did try couple DataRSS samples and changed the contained info to the proper
info, then I did add them to the siteexplorer.
None of them passed, is there any acceptable data RSS sample that you could pass
them to us that we could try to see if it will deny your own acceptable DataRSS
too?

Hi YSM,
I have a website that makes use of the hProduct microformat; I noticed that YSM
is yet to adopt this. Do you know if and when this will change?
Hi Simon,
Yes, you can also use the W3C Distiller for most of the testing, except
that our validator also makes sure that you are using the right
vocabularies, and combine them in the way we suggest.
With respect to address data, unfortunately the vcard specification on
which our vocabulary is based doesn't contain hints as to what to do in
this case [1]. The question to me is whether this extra piece of
information (Hammersmith) is necessary to identify the place or not (try
Yahoo Maps, for example). If not, you may safely leave out, otherwise I
would add it to the location.
Cheers,
Peter

Right OK, I won't worry too much then. I will need to defer to the W3C distiller
for testing though I suppose? At least for the time being?

I should be able to decompose the structure. I wonder if you can help with one
very specific detail.
My address data contains a notion of "post town" e.g. "London" and a second more
specific term which I've labelled "locality" e.g. "Hammersmith", formally this
is known as "dependant locality". See:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post_town
There seems to be no predicate in your documentation for, post town, town or
city specifically, yet the examples give "London" as an example of a locality.
So I was wondering if *multiple* locality statements would be accepted and if
the ordering of statements would be preserved?
Of course, rdfs:label is fine for me in any case.

Hi Monkeys,
As we've seen on our message boards, many of you have read the tech press this
morning with interest and are wondering about what this means for our developer
tools such as SearchMonkey and APIs like BOSS.
This is the beginning of a process and we'll be working with Microsoft to
determine what makes the best sense for both us and developers. Regardless, we
are certainly committed to continuing to innovate on the user experience of
search all across Yahoo! and on continuing to engage with the developer
community on several fronts, opening up leading audience experiences and data to
third-party innovation. In that context, SearchMonkey can add a lot of value to
how we help people get the most out of search and out of Yahoo!.
With the runaway success of SearchMonkey, structured data has become very
important to all the major search engines over the last year. For this reason,
we strongly encourage you to continue adding RDFa and microformats
<http://developer.search.yahoo.com/start> to your properties. This data is very
important to the future of search... monkeys, typewriters - you know the deal!
Over the next several months we'll determine what makes sense with our developer
offerings and provide information as soon as it becomes available.

Hmmm... we've had some problems with the feed validator recently where it's been
reporting bogus errors. So it could be you, or it could be us. :)
Sanity check: can you verify that your feed runs through a tool like xmllint
with zero errors? If so, then please send me the URI of your feed and I'll take
a look.
Best,

I ignore these errors because the Validation State says "passed" or do I have to
somehow fix those? If so, how? It's hard to tell what the problem is if it
passes w3c validation and I don't get a more descriptive error message from site
explorer.

I created my feed and submitted it on Site Explorer.
The feed is listed as:
Status: "new", Validation: "passed", Publication: "pending"
However, when I click on the feed it still says: "Validation State: passed", but
on the bottom of the page, it says "2 Errors"
- error: LibXMLError ERROR "internal error"
- error: LibXMLError ERROR "Extra content at the end of the document"
I validated the document with the w3c validator and it opens fine in IE8. Can I
ignore these errors because the Validation State says "passed" or do I have to
somehow fix those? If so, how? It's hard to tell what the problem is if it
passes w3c validation and I don't get a more descriptive error message from site
explorer.

Awesome, thanks!
Hello all,
The SearchMonkey validator (available at the bottom of every SearchMonkey object
page, like http://developer.search.yahoo.com/help/objects/product) is currently
down. If you try to validate a URL, you'll most likely see a "Zero Bytes
Received" error. I'll report back to this thread when the issue is resolved.

Yup! :)

Hello again Daysleeperk2,
Currently the objectfinder tool discussed below only validates markup in web
pages. To validate a DataRSS feed:
A) Run your feed (or a representative sample of your feed) through an Atom
validator -- any DataRSS feed should also be valid Atom.
B) Validate your feed against the XSD listed in the SearchMonkey manual:
http://developer.yahoo.com/searchmonkey/smguide/datarss.html
C) If you are using a "pointer feed", run it through an OPML validator. Any
pointer feed should be valid OPML:
http://developer.yahoo.com/searchmonkey/smguide/creating_feeds.html
D) Make sure that whatever system you are using to generate your feed is
bulletproofed against encoding issues, unescaped characters, or any other issues
that might cause your feed to become invalid XML, now or in the future.
Once you submit your feed via Site Explorer, the system will check your entire
feed's validity again. If the feed is invalid, Site Explorer will report those
errors to you. However, the feed submission process can take on the order of
days, so it is best to do A-D first rather than relying on Site Explorer as a
feedback loop during development.
Best regards,
Evan Goer

We have asked this question for several times, I saw the first download of the
validator (Zip, and It wasn't working), then got removed, and now different
questions and I have seen all these questions like the user "nz.government"
asked for it just couple days after the download was removed, I was there with
another user id asking on how to use the search monkey feed validator.
I say"in total enabling us to validate feeds and submit them to Yahoo! site
explorer will bring a better outcome on feeds, less errors for Y!Site Explorer
Team, less errors for Y! Search Monkey team, and a good help for Users".
Y! Search Monkey team, please take a look at this issue which in troubles both
side, if possible to speed up the feed validator online or in zip for users,
Thanks and Keep Moving Forward.
In the end thanks all,...

Hi Daysleeperk2,
That's an oversight on our part - we'll update the documentation asap!
We moved away from a downloadable validator and built an online tool to ensure
we're always providing accurate validation for any new Object types we release
support for. You can access this via the following URL:

Hello there,
The searchmonkey documentation links to this group numerous times and recommends
downloading the validation tool from the Files-section. I can't find the tool
anywhere. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

Dear Evangoer,
Thanks for reply and very important information that contained.
One of the presentaion address:
http://gallery.search.yahoo.com/application?smid=JSX
Which got into the Yahoo! Search Gallery under "Other", and I have not found
this application in Yahoo! search result, as the below post from you says "If
your application is high quality and makes it into the Gallery, we can then
consider it for default on."
I was wondering if such application could appear in the Yahoo! search results?
and if not what is the issue then we could work to improve!
Here is another question arises and that is:
If an application start appearing in Yahoo! search result, would that override
the existed search result for the same URL? Or it would be totally independent
result, lets call it "if this would be an extra search result for that URL"!?
I need to thank search monkey team in advance for making this future availabel
for us, and I think you all Rock and you all need to keep up! Also I need to
thank from active members like nz-government for posting very helpful
information in this group.
As I see those new categories that search monkey have listed, but here is the
question: I did try two of them and failed, it looks like there should be a
header and some more line to be added in the file, but I really can't find any
details about it (What would be added to those example in the beggining and end
of those files) I mean the DataRss examples; if you would be able to show us a
completed datarss file as example using one of those at categories, that should
be very helpful for me or any other member who reads it.
Thanks, again Thanks.

Aha, good question. So getting your feed indexed is step 1. Step 2 is
presentation!
STANDARD ENHANCED RESULTS
If your site falls into one of the categories listed at
http://developer.search.yahoo.com/start, and your feed supplies data that
matches the expected structure for one of those categories, then congratuations!
Your results should get a enhanced display automatically, for all Y! search
users. (Note: Video, Documents, and Games are in production. The other five
categories are under bucket test and will be launching soon -- we're still
tweaking the designs.)
CUSTOM SEARCHMONKEY APPLICATION
If your site does not fall into one of these categories, or if you don't like
the standard presentations, then you can create a custom SearchMonkey
application using the SearchMonkey developer tool,
http://developer.search.yahoo.com/wizard/index. If your application is high
quality and makes it into the Gallery, we can then consider it for default on.

I see this error on all of the feeds, but it seems like they all are working
fine, if anyone has problems with feeds and thinks this issue is the cause,
please reply with the issue; this way we will know if there are issues that

Is there any extra steps to take? I have not seen any of the account's results
in Yahoo! search results.
Thanks Evangoer for the good news.

Hi all,
I have good news on the NUM_VALID_URLS UNKNOWN "0" error that various people
have been reporting. It turns out the error is bogus. Your feeds actually *are*
getting indexed -- however, the Site Explorer GUI is incorrectly reporting that
the indexing is failing. The "Documents Processed: 0" field is also inaccurate.
So if you're seeing any NUM_VALID_URLS errors, please feel free to ignore these
messages for now. It is possible to get *real* errors -- for example, if you
submit a malformed feed, you might see something like:
error: LibXMLError ERROR "Start tag expected, '<' not found"
which would indicate a real parsing problem with the feed.
The Site Explorer team is going to be addressing this shortly, as we are very
interested in accurately reporting feed statistics and errors to site owners.
Bottom line: ignore the bogus errors, Site Explorer feed submissions are still
open for business. Thanks for your patience!
Evan Goer
Yahoo! SearchMonkey Team
Hello all,
after the Yahoo Crawler got over my DataRSS Feed there occur some errors that
are strange to me.
One of these errors is: NUM_VALID_URLS UNKNOWN "0"
I read in this mailing list that the crawler itselft is responsible for this
kind of error.
But I've got one more error that I don't know its origin: files-good ERROR "0"
Maybe somebody can tell me whats wrong with my DataRSS file when this error
occurs!? Or is it just again a bug of the crawler?
Thank you for your help!
Regards,
Thomas.
Thank you very much for reporting this issue. The two components are
independent.
- Site Explorer feed submissions, NUM_VALID_URLS UNKNOWN "0" -- I can reproduce
this issue with feeds I know to be valid. I will escalate this with Site
Explorer team.
- Gallery submissions, 500 ERROR -- I can't reproduce this error. Can you try
again and see if you can successfully resubmit to the Gallery? Does the problem
persist? If so, please send me the SMID of your app and the approximate time you
encountered the error.
Best,
Evan Goer

Dear "nz.government",
You are not being rude at all, you have been very helpful when you have posted a
url for a correct formed data rss feed while I was asking the search monkey team
to give us one, let me repeat: You have been very helpful, I personaly thank you
for the information that you have posted (I did add your site into our directory
as a thank you weeks ago).
When it comes to this error "500", this error shows at the presentation
submition area, and there is another error that shows in the feed area at
siteexplorer:
error: NUM_VALID_URLS UNKNOWN "0"
error: NUM_VALID_URLS UNKNOWN "0"
error: NUM_VALID_URLS UNKNOWN "0"
error: NUM_VALID_URLS UNKNOWN "0"
error: NUM_VALID_URLS UNKNOWN "0"
error: NUM_VALID_URLS UNKNOWN "0"
error: NUM_VALID_URLS UNKNOWN "0"
error: NUM_VALID_URLS UNKNOWN "0"
error: NUM_VALID_URLS UNKNOWN "0"
error: NUM_VALID_URLS UNKNOWN "0"
error: NUM_VALID_URLS UNKNOWN "0"
error: NUM_VALID_URLS UNKNOWN "0"
error: NUM_VALID_URLS UNKNOWN "0"
error: NUM_VALID_URLS UNKNOWN "0"
error: NUM_VALID_URLS UNKNOWN "0"
Some accounts display this error once or twice or three times and some displays
it like the above.
Here is a new question arrises: Is the error "0" in the feed area at
siteexplorer has anything to do with the error "500" at the presentation
submition area? Maybe it is and Maybe not! Maybe search monkey team knows this
answer.
As of now some of those accounts were experiencing the error "500" are solved
and I am able to submit or resubmit the presentations, but the error "0" is
still out there at siteexplorer feed area.
As an extra information, yes this error "0" appears in the feed area, I don't
know what type of error you see there, all accounts I am monitoring shows
"error: NUM_VALID_URLS UKNOWN "0".
Thanks.
