Sharkzone1,

I don't know much about your wheelchair application but as far as
interfacing a PC's parallel port to other electronics, order a book titled
Parallel Port Complete: Programming, Interfacing & Using the PC'S Parallel
Printer Port -- Jan Axelson. This should get you going in the right
direction.

Subject: [selmaware] electric wheelchair

Does any one have any idea on how to interface a pc's parallel port
to an electric wheelchair without canceling the human control (the
pc well only act if the human well make a mistake the chare has
ultrasonic on it) it well go like this.....
1. Measure free space (distances to the obstacles) with us sensors
around vehicle. (This should run continuously)
2. If there is no room left side -> turn right
3. If there is no room right side ->turn left
4 if both sides have no room -> slow down or stop
4.1 Check where room is
4.2 Turn to that direction
4.3 Continue moving
5. Go to 1.

Why use a PC to perform this? A microcontroller, such as the BASIC Stamp (and others) should be capable of this control. -Martin Hebel ... From: John Gavlik...
