Re: [sf-fowl] SF fowl rule question

I have chickens housed "about" 15-20 feet away from my neighbor's windows—I never actually jumped the fence to measure accurately). The neighbors have never complained. I was a tinge worried last week when I had 3 building inspectors surveying my entire property for code compliance since we are applying for condo conversion. They said nothing about about the chickens, but did give an "aww" for the bunnies, so I was quite relieved. I guess they are just sticking to the plumbing, electrical and building codes, not the municipal health code which is believe is where the "20 foot rule" comes from. Probably would only need to worry about enforcement (w/o neighbor complaints) if you were keeping the birds near a restaurant or other food oriented business where the inspectors are familiar with the health codes...Robin

It does include your own dwelling. I think it's 20ft away from any opening - window or doors. This of course precludes the possibility of having the coop inside the structure where you live.

That said, I believe so far the enforcement had been on complaint only bases. Has anyone heard otherwise?

Subject: [sf-fowl] SF fowl rule question

Hello,

Does the rule to locate the coop 20 feet away from an inhabited property include your own? Does anyone know how strictly these rules are enforced assuming neighbors are ok with the hens?

I suppose having the coop inside a dwelling gets around this rule. What are your thoughts on an indoor coop-say under the house or in the garage? What drawbacks do you see assuming the hens would be able to wander outside all day long.

My understanding is it also applies to your own dwelling. That said, putting the henhouse under a deck or in a garage doesn't seem like a bad idea, provided...
