Roboteers,

MEETING: Southeren Oregon Robotics will have it's
monthly meeting this Saturday (Aug 12th) at Pizza Hut
in Grants Pass. The address is 1465 Ne 6th St, Grants
Pass. The meeting starts at 6pm sharp!

Remember that we ALL agreed that we would bring our
bots for a little friendly competition again this
month. We'll do line following and sumo. BRING YOUR
BOTS!!!

Jon Peterman will be showing the "first steps" from
his new six servo walker. Jon's make a lot of
progress on this since the last meeting and it's very
cool!

As always... Bring along anything you are working on
for show-n-tell! You are working on something right?

See you there... John

Hopefully Jon Peterman will dazzle us again with more
progress on his little six servo walker. I am just
finishing assembly of a new LynxMotion BRAT humanoid
(walker). I should have it moving under it's own
power for the meeting. You won't want to miss this if
you've seen the BRAT videos at:

This thing is very cool. You better come and check it
out!

Hello everyone!

I'm relatively new to the field of Hobby robotics, but I'm enjoying it
a great deal. I'm working on a prototype for one of my projects and
have been studying as much as I can about hardware, parts, electronics
and programing.

I've desiged a circuit board from my prototype and I think it's not
too shabby, but I want someone's experienced opinion so I know for
sure if it will work safely.

Would anyone be willing to look at it for me and give me any pointers?

Thank you!

Roboteers,

MEETING: Southeren Oregon Robotics will have it's
monthly meeting this Saturday (November 11th) at Pizza
Hut in Grants Pass. The address is 1465 Ne 6th St,
Grants Pass. The meeting starts at 6pm sharp!

Two sets of Mattracks were given away at the last
meeting. One set went to Zane Moore who has figured
out a way to install them on his BoeBot. Zane will be
doing a demo for us at this meeting and telling us how
he managed to overcome a lot of difficult challenges
to get these working.

Turnout has been pretty low lately. I hope more of
you can come this month. I know we all have a lot of
irons in the fire, but this is YOUR club and we need
YOUR support to keep it viable and interesting.

This month I'd like to have a discussion about where
the club is headed. I hope everyone will be there and
share their ideas. We seem to be loosing some of our
"SPARK" and maybe we need to change our direction to
get back on track.

As always... Bring along anything you are working on
for show-n-tell! You "are" working on something
right?

BRING YOUR BOTS!!! ...John

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone familiar with dewalt drill motors,
know if there is a comprabable brushless motor with
the same size, performance and available gearbox..

I'm looking to replace the 18 V Dewalts/gearbox that I have used before.

If you are not familiar with the dewalts this website has some info.

I've used the dirt cheap $29 18V's from Harbor Freight. They're
certainly not as good as the Dewalts, but they do well for pushing a
robot around.

Thanks for the tip David.
Are there any brushless motors that that are comprabable to
the Dewalt?
I've seen big brushless motors that can do the job,
but nothing that is as small as the dewalts.

Hey Pete,

I currently have dewalts and I want to swap them out.
The advantages that the brushless has over brushed
are just what I want

Most brushless that I have seen,
are twice the size and weight of the dewalt
just to get the same performance.

I was curious to see if there is a brushless equivalent that
matched the dewalts.

Thanks,
Dennis

Brushless motors are generally designed for long term and efficient applications.  Drill motors are designed for short term intermitent operation, high torque, and are not very efficient.  Which is probably why it is hard to find similar brushless motors of the same physical size delivering the same torque that a drill motor provides.  Also, high current, reversible, speed controllers for brushless motors are hard to find and build.  Also, they are considerably more expensive than brushed motors.

Another place to look at is www.aveox.com

Thanks,
Dennis

Roboteers,

MEETING: Southeren Oregon Robotics will have it's
monthly meeting this Saturday (December 9h) at Pizza
Hut in Grants Pass. The address is 1465 Ne 6th St,
Grants Pass. The meeting starts at 6pm sharp!

In the holiday spirit, we'll be having a gift exchange
this month. If you can, please bag or box something
with robotics potential and bring it along with you to
exchange. This need not be something new or valuable.
It can be any old treasure that you have laying
around that you think could be used on a robot. Just
needs to be something a Robo-Geek would find useful or
interesting! The exchange has always been a blast and
some of the craziest things have shown up. Come join
the fun! You can get something this year to give away
next year! :)

As always... Drag along anything you are working on

right?

Have you looked at www.hackerbrushless.com?
They are expensive, but have good torque from zero rpm up.  Just don't over current or over heat them.  Using PWM they will even lock in position and act like a stepper at low rpm.

Dave Flynn

P.S. I'm new here.  Is there a club that meets in the L.A. area?

Roboteers,
Due to severe ice and cold weather conditions, the
robot club meeting in Grants Pass tomorrow has been
CANCELLED. Jon is going to check with Pizza Hut to
see if the meeting room is available NEXT SATURDAY.
If it is, I will send out another meeting notice for
that in the next few days. If the room is not
available, we will skip this months meeting and get
together again in February at the regular time.

Next Saturday is likely so those of you that "didn't
quite" get your robots ready to show off at this
meeting have another week. GET BUSY! :<)

at Pizza Hut in Grants Pass. The ddress is 1465 Ne
6th St, Grants Pass. The meeting starts at 6pm sharp!

Last meeting there was a lot of interest and
discussion about line followers. Hopefully we will
see a bunch of new line following bots at this
meeting!

As always... Bring along anything you are working on
for show-n-tell. You "are" working on something
right?

Thanks for Jon Peterman for working this change out
with Pizza Hut for us. We look forward to seeing
everyone there.

BringYourBots!!! ...John
