Hi Sharepoint experts,

I'm wondering what can exactly be done to search inside Exchange 5.5
Information Store and Exchange 2000 WSS with SharePoint.
I'd like the users to be able to search public folders (I know this is
possible) and their personnal mailboxes (ie : Inbox, Sent Items, Calendar,
Contacts...).
I managed to index a personal mailbox with Exchange 2000. I did the following
: add a new content source of type Exchange 2000 public folders and change
the url from http://server/public to http://server/exchange.
But I have 2 problems :
- the administrator must have access rights to all mailboxes on the Exchange
server (how to do that?). At the moment I can only index
http://server/exchange/administrator
- the search doesn't seem to include anything from the calendar or the
contacts. Does anyoe know what is indexed exactly ?

I will try to do the same with an Exchange 5.5 server, any successful
experience ?

Another question : is it Ok to install Exchange Server 5.5 (for testing) on
the same server as SPS (Windows 2000 Server) ?

Thanks for your help

Jean-Nicolas

Hi

I am trying to modify a profiles of documents. On the profile window, I
can't edit anything, it comes up with a lot of funny characters that I
cannot even read.
I created a new workspace, and the profiles in this workspace work
perfectly.

Anybody experienced this before.

Thanks

hello
I'm new to this nesgroup and I've got an urgent question:
I've enabled the IFilter for Tiff files and for sometime everything worked
properly but shortly after it stoped working, that is when I search for a
word within a tif file using SPS seach nothing is returned ( I know that
the word I'm searching for is contained in at least one tif document saved
in my Sharepoint workspace).
I tried the following things, according to microsoft:
* added the default content access account to the local Administrators group
on the server SPS is installed on
* modified the following key in the registry:
	 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Contentindex so that
move Mspfilt.dll at the end of the list
* reset the index
every time, after making change, I restarted Microsoft Search service and
in the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{020767AC-6DB7-11D1-BCF6-00C04FB95
2B9}\InprocServer32 the entry "ThreadingModel" is set to "Apartment" and not
to "Both".
The search in SPS is otherwise working correctly.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

you need to know vbscript really and xml, xsl too. The VB script can take
hold of the sps dll's (basically CDO) so you can query sps and perform
operations using that. I guess you can do SQL/ADO server DB stuff too but I
haven't personally done that yet. Maybe someone else has on here?
API is much more low level that SPS - SPS is basically ASP technology I
suppose. API is really for the OS not for packages themselves (although it
is possible that SPS may have some API calls to various windows routines -
but I don't think it does).

Hi again,

What it is needed to learn to create WebParts? Vbscript, ASP are enough?
Does SharePoint have a special API?

Thanks again.

I un-installed Sharepoint Portal Server from one of our servers here a good
while ago. Now I want to install it again but when I try I get an error
message telling me that an older version of Exchange is installed and to
upgrade to Exchange 2000 SP1. MS Exchange is not installed on the server in
question. I noticed that the data folder in Sharepoint Portal Server is left
behind after install - is this the problem and how do I get around it?

Thanks,
Katherine

In our experience, the workspace backup captures everything but custom
webparts and dashboard content. Unfortunately, you are on your own to back
this stuff up and to restore it.

changes there, it doesn't help much. When I create a new workspace,
everything is where it is supposed to be.

Any ideas?

No unfortunately not. The only workaround is to use the doc_status webpart.
The WP tells if there are docs waiting for approval or not.

Hello all. I'm very new to the SharePoint scene and I have a question
regarding indexing. I can't seem to get a good handle on it yet. The
configuration that we have in mind supports an intranet site that needs good
search capabilities, but no document management plans to-date. I have set
up an index workspace to split up the work between search/dashboard and
index servers. The index is propagating to the search server.

I have two questions at this point:

1) Will I still have the default index on the search/dashboard server that
indexes the Portal Content folder, i.e., announcements, news and quick links
web parts in which I've taken advantage? Can I specify that I would like to
use the index workspace to take care of indexing these folders?

2) I can't seem to be able to index the web sites that I've defined via the
web links web part. The only way that I'm able to do it right now is to
define them a second time via Management>Content Sources>Add Content Source
wizard from My Network Places. I not only want to be able to search the web
sites, but also provide links to them on the dashboard. I'd rather not set
them up in two different places.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks Andreas.

For everyone else, the web part can be found at the bottom of
http://www.microsoft.com/sharepoint/downloads/webparts/applications.asp.

Here's the description:

Document Status Tool
This Web Part, included in the SharePoint Portal Server Resource kit,
shows each user the documents checked out to him, documents awaiting his
approval, and his documents pending the approval of others. Before use,
an administrator must run a setup script on the server.

the story I've heard).

I'm sorry if it caused any problems.

Hi

I went into my worspace and nothing was where it was supposed to be, e.g.
categories are "mixing" in news' space. When I go to the layout and make
changes there, it doesn't help much. When I create a new workspace,
everything is where it is supposed to be.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

From the Management Dashboad of SharePoint there is a utility to manage
Subscriptions. This should allow you to remove the subscriptions for a
particualar user. You should be able to down this Dashboard (if you don't
have it) from Microsoft's SharePoint site.

Hi

I have a subscription problem!
One of the user accounts has been deleted as the user is no longer here.
The user's subscriptions were not cancelled before the account was deleted.
The subscriptions are still being sent to the account, but as the account is
not there they are being sent to the system administrator with a message
'message did not reach recipient. The recipient name is not recognized'
How do I cancel the subscriptions for this user?

Thanks in advance,

Suzanne.

My SPS server stopped publishing documents today! Here are the symptoms:
I navigate to an enhanced folder via the portal. From the "Add Document"
screen, I select a document to publish and press "Continue".
Instead of asking me for a profile the document I uploaded appears in my
browser! When I return to the folder the document I uploaded is listed as an
unpublished document. When I select actions, rather than the list of
available actions showing up the document shows up in my browser again! All
existing documents seem to work just as they should. Anybody know what the
problem is? Any solutions?

Thanks,

Thanks Daniel -- tried that but am getting a script error when the

Any ideas?

Hi ,

steps for taking backup and restore
BACKUP
at Command Prompt.
Move to the SharePoint Portal Server \Bin directory. The location of this
directory depends on the location of the SharePoint Portal Server
installation directory.

If you are backing up to a local disk, go to step 4. If you are backing up
to a remote disk, you must specify a network access account. To specify this
account, type MSDMBack /a domain\user password and then press ENTER. You
need to specify this account only once.

Type MSDMBack /b "path_to_backup_file_name" [password] and then press ENTER.

RESTORE
On a differebt system with sharepoint portal server installed and service
strated.
at Command Prompt.
Move to the SharePoint Portal Server \Bin directory. The location of this
directory depends on the location of the SharePoint Portal Server
installation directory.

Type msdmback.vbs -r "path& file"
(path&file- here comeplete path where u r backup file exists - file created
by the above back up process)

regarda,

Once you have SPS installed on your Server, go to the following location:

Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, SharePoint Portal Server
Administration

This will open up the MMC to Administer SharePoint. Once this is open,
merely go to the Help menu. Once the Help menu opens, look under the
following location:

Administrator's Help, Backing Up Restoring and Duplicating Servers.

This is the entire Admin Guide for SPS

hope this helps.
