Walli,

No offense but I think it absurd to alter my musical ideas, whether
others like them or not, in order to not crash or have the program
not f&%k up. Pardon my lack of patience, but the last hour's work of
creating a new version to which I copied the old parts into, just
crashed. I don't know if folks know it, but system text and double
bars don't get copied, so there was a lot of manual work involved,
before all was lost again. And I don't know what else didn't get
copied. Deadline on me and all seems lost. I want the forth beat.
And all the others.

Rather than asking musicians, you would probably do best to check with pre-school and elementary teachers about where they get musical material, since they all teach through songs whether they can sing or not. "Kids Songs" is an old school series of books that used to come with tapes. Or just rip off your material from Sesame Street and Mister Rogers. There are gazillions of possibilites…

Hi Steven!

There are only two comments that I can make: 1) Replace the note on beat three with a quarter rest; the phrase breathes that way and is more interesting; 2) change the G# to an Ab, since the line is descending and fewer accidentals are needed.  Measure one will look better if you make the first note's stem go upward.   Someone else may know the answer to the question of why the fourth beat will not play in bar three.

Since I have been through the "problem wringer" lately, I empathize with your problem of crashing.   If I could help, you KNOW I would.

Have a GREAT week!

Well, I could give you the "wanting to help establish the key", or
the actual, I was in a hurry to make the work bass part (not to be
played as is), but in fact, you're right, the Eb sounds better. So
I changed all 15 or so instances. Thank you. Wanna proof read the

Great question. Same for me. Maybe I can gain something by making a
new score and then pasting. Not hard, but weird.

I'd trumpet the improvements, but right now I'm kind of depressed by

If it had been an A against a Bb13 on a strong beat, not an
appoggiatura, or whatever its opposite is called, I would have much
wanted to know about it. Especially with the playback problems I've
been having that make trusting my eyes more reliable than trusting my
ears.

yup. The problem exists in multiple places in the score. The slur
and tie together seem to be the issue. Either by itself doesn't
cause the problem.

Is this a known problem?
My scores have no noteheads or dynamics, no "music font" signs of any
kind - only lines, curves and text.
The only music font which seems to be behaving normally when I scroll
through new document House Style choices is Reprise.
Anyone seen this before and know how to fix it?

I'm guessing that something gets a bit screwed up because the last
note of the slur is the same pitch as the note that follows it.
If the pitch on beat 4 is changed, everything plays okay even with the
slur.
You can duplicate this in bar two by changing the pitch on beat 4 to
match the pitch on beat 3. Beat 4 doesn't play - so it's not isolated
to something in bar three.

Paul,

If I delete either the slur or the tie, it fixes the nonexistence of
the notes at beat 4. So that isolates the cause. But the notation
accurately instructs the players. More important than playback. Any
ideas on the fix? Or how Sib. itself took on the job of
reconfiguring some hitherto operating function?
Thank you.

I kept trying to reduce the %s 'til they worked. When they did, they
sounded awful. Between crashes and buggy behavior (the program's, not
mine) I'm losing track of the versions. And I have 134 bars to mend.
Properties solutions won't work for me, even if they fix it.
Thanks.

I would send the file with the fixes in but I only have the Sib 6
Demo, and I cant save..

and here the notes were to 85% on the file u had sent:
When i look at midi files exported from Sib, and if i FORGET to set
Performance to mecchanico, I get durations longer that what the
notes should be, and problems like this can arise.

Hopefully Daniel will solve all these problems for you ..

NOTHING kills a music session and inspiration faster than software/
computer problems.

Good luck and please keep us posted.

I've never had to do it with Sibelius before, but I'm suspecting I
may have to reinstall 6.1 to become bug free again. Anyone know how
to do this safely?

As you see, note length is at 90%. Usually I do well at 94%. If I
reduce this to @ 50 % it separartes the notes, but sounds worse than
silence.
I agree with your diagnosis of the problem, but can not see the
solution. I have not changed any settings (that I know of ) that
have worked well for years.

Thanks for your time and expertise.

You have my sympathy...burt the workaround I sent works here, and somehow, at least in my mind, voice robbing occured. and it was due to the repeated notes  cutting off the next notes playback, as they were too long..

as I had written, the notes seem to be set to0 105-106% of their value.
I hope u solve it--

Guess I may be thick again today. I never had a live performance to
playback. It was notated only by Mac (or MAC) keyboard. If I click
on live playback, there is no 256 (nor any number) showing in the
property playback window. Blank window. If I have Live playback
off, the duration button in properties is greyed out. And... I have
never had to adjust each note to make things work. I'm beginning to
suspect that somehow Sibelius has become corrupted. And this is 4
bars of a 134 bar piece. No way am I gonna edit each note. It's not a
terribly important thing except as a symptom of other difficulties
since I just use playback to find clunkers. But it is irritating,
and a little foreboding of worse to come.

I may be way off but is there somewhere you have a setting for legato notes to be played at 105-106% of their value?

Bob,

Thanks for the responses, but...

PS and change the 128 right before it to 120...so the fourth 8th in m3 =120, then the quarter its tied to =240, and the next quurter =240, in both voices

Hi Daniel - the one I'm most interested in keeping is a Proteus 2000
with Protozoa installed. I spent some time customizing a sound set or
Sib 4.
I don't think I understand the new playback system yet.
Thanks.
