Importing from delicious gives all bookmarks the same `added' date.   Message List

Hi,

I've been considering moving from delicious to simpy after delicious's
recent makeover. I've imported my delicious bookmarks but they all
end up with an `added' date of now; the date I added them to
delicious isn't used. The date is made available by delicious.

I mentioned this to feedback@... and heard from Otis who I think was
saying it doesn't make sense for a bookmark to had been added before
the account was created, and not to worry because all future bookmarks
would have an accurate date.

My reply's gone unanswered, presumably because I couldn't persuade
Otis, but I thought I'd ask a wider audience their opinion to see if
there's something odd about my view and to get the issue `on record'
for those that come looking later. At the moment, Simpy isn't of use
to me, which is a shame.

I think moving my bookmarks from delicious to Simpy should be akin to
moving my email from Thunderbird to mutt. I wouldn't expect all the
emails' Date headers to be re-set to `now'. In the same way, when I
decided to bookmark a URL is very useful information to me and a good
aid in searching. "I added it years ago, when I was working with
John." To discard this information on import seems an oversight but
apparently it's by design. I can't see a good justification for it.

I've checked the API but http://www.simpy.com/doc/api/rest/SaveLink
doesn't seem to let an alternative time and date to `now' to be
specified, so I can't even work around it myself by doing my own import.

Cheers,

Ralph.
