Alas, you're right. I did try this earlier, but must have hit on a dim star.

Rod,
Just tried your suggestion. I can get the FOV indicator to centre on the
required RA and Dec ( 6hr , 60 dec N) I then click on the telescope slew
command and the nearest it gets is to the closest star in CdC - TYC
4094-2305-1 When I relocated the FOV indicator and asked for another slew -
I just get the Beep and no movement!

Yes. I think my comments were pretty clear about that. I thought it
worked and confirmed that it does not after you said so :)

My only objection was that you said it didn't work because the
coordinate wasn't an object. That's not correct. It doesn't work because
CdC doesn't make the specified position the new target. It wouldn't work
either if you happened to enter a target coordinate on purpose or by
accident.

Do we agree then that CdC/ EQMOD can't GOTO an arbitrary RA/Dec

Indeed. rightclick->telescope->slew is the same as pressing the slew
button on the toolbar. It goes to the current target, not the location
of the right click nor the current view position.

This is easily verified with the EQMOD simulator.

Negative. Either position your cursor on the desired RA/Dec or center it
using the position command and put your cursor there...then...right click,
telescope, slew.

It simply does not update the target location when the view position is
updated. It has nothing to do with the point not being in a database.

As an aside I could have used the 'right click->slew here' feature last
night. I had to switch catalogs to get more stars to find the correct
slew position.

I hope so. I'm still using v2.76, but on a closely related issue, I always

Ken,

I know you also asked on the EQMOD list so I just tried with a recent
3.0. Try the View->Position dialog. You can view and edit the current
position.

Under CdC V3.0.1.6 is it possible to enter a random RA and Dec value and then
get the scope to GOTO??
( Thinking about an obscure object - not in the CdC database, where you have the
catalogue details and want to image)
The advanced Search doesn't give that option????

Hi,

As 64 bits Linux are more and more popular I have build a few packages for this
systems.
You can download them from :
http://www.ap-i.net/skychart/en/development_version

As I have to reboot to another system to make them they will not be updated very
frequently, maybe the same as the Mac OS X package.

Hi,

You need to install the 32 bits compatibility libraries:
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

For skychart you can also build a 64 bits version from source but in this case
do not use the lazarus compiler from Ubuntu because this is a too old version,
get lazarus 0.9.28 from http://www.lazarus.freepascal.org/

I not build 64 bit version regularly because I use a server with an old
processor for the automatic build.

You select the 64 bit version of Ubuntu at the time you download the CDrom. But
this is the good choice and all must be OK after you install this compatibility
libraries.

After trying to load Adobe Flash and encountering the same problem as with CdC,
I did some googling and was wondering if my issue is with the 32 vs. 64 bit
versions of Ubuntu. How do I tell which version I have? I installed my distro
using Wubi and just followed the prompts. I don't remember seeing an option to
install one or the other.

Thanks, Dan

I'm new to Linux and just got Ubuntu 9.1 installed and was trying to get CdC
installed. I'm following the instructions on the website and all is well and
good until I get to the part where I install the software and get the following
message:

starmandan@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install skychart
[sudo] password for starmandan:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package skychart is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package skychart has no installation candidate
starmandan@ubuntu:~$

What to do?

Thanks, Dan

It's a bit hidden. Go to Chart Coordinates->Grid Spacing.

Hello, I was wondering how can I see on screen the current field orientation
(North-East, etc.). I saw on one of the screenshots something like compass, but
I didnt find out how to bring it up. If there is no such feature in the Windows
version, can you please include it in later versions.
Thank you in advance!

I've just had a look, at http://www.stargazing.net/astropc/download.html
and the software all seems to be there. I tried the Complete Package
2.76 and the Version 2.76c update.

It may have been a temporary glitch somewhere.

I've been using CDC for a few years and find the charts to be the best around
for my uses. I have the version 2.76 on my desktop and tablet PC. thought to
install it onto my ultraportable PC for use in my viewing sessions. I also
thought to see if I could see if there were any updates to the software.

Today, I went to the original CDC website and found the version 2.76c update. I
clicked on the link to download that and was met with an error message stating
that it is not available or cannot be found. I tried again with the same
result.

I did find the information regarding the beta of version 3 and thought to
download it and give it a try to see its latest features and such.
Unfortunately, I was again met with the same error message. In fact, clicking
on any of the other download links in the CDC web site have the same result.

I've even tried the SkyChart page links without success as well.

Can anyone direct me to a link that actually works or inform me of what might be
happening? It would be gratefully appreciated.

Unfortunately no. I think I logged a bug or rfe for this a long time
