The Skyscrapers, Inc., The Amateur Astronomical Society of Rhode Island, is the second oldest continuously operating amateur astronomical society in the USA. Founded in 1932 by Prof. Charles Smiley of Brown University, the Society is currently composed of about 125+ amateur astronomers. The Society was incorporated in 1936 to purchase the Seagrave Observatory in Scituate, RI. We are recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 educational organization.
Monthly meetings are held, usually the first Friday of the month (check web site for Saturday meetings during the summer months), and frequently feature professional astronomers, educators, researchers, or representatives from space sciences organizations, i.e., NASA.
PLEASE NOTE: Currently, *SKYSCRAPERS MEMBERS ONLY* are allowed access to the files, photos, folders, etc., and posting of messages and participating in discussions on this group. Skyscrapers members wishing to join this group must clearly identify themselves as members of the Society. Public viewing of messages/discussions is permitted. Others interested in the Society may visit us on Saturday evening public viewing sessions, or by sending an email to one of the Society's officers (see web address below).
