According to my rough calculations, that should
give about 90 inches of C,D,CF,DF scales.

I recently received a Hemmi 200, a 16" rule with VERY
extended C and D scales, and no others (6 C's, 6 D's,
6CF's and 6DF's). While I can figure out how to use
it, I don't trust it because it is so different. Does
anyone have a manual for it?

Thanks,

Hello Group ---

I have been informed that some of our members may think that this group
is for trading and swapping only. In the event that this is the case, I
would
like to say ...........

Au contraire! Not so !
Our name... The Slide Rule Trading Group, uses the word "trading" in its
broadest sense, including buying and selling.

All members are invited to post rules for sale and rules wanted.
Our dealer members are invited to post their lists of rules for sale.
All are welcome to create a file in our FILES section to list their wares.
This, as a central location of many rules for sale by many sellers should
prove
quite handy for both buyers and sellers.
This is our intent.

Best regards,
Ted Hume

HMMMMMMMMM

VERRRRRRRY INTERESTING!

From the very small picture of the sliderule, it looks very similar to a
slide rule that I have which was a giveaway from a Contract Research
Organization. This one was a pretty LOUSY excuse for a sliderule, but since
it dated from 1980 at the earliest, it is a pretty amazing curiousity. The
CRO is out of business and I never found out where they contracted for the
little giveaways to be produced.

Bob

Sorry that this is a little off topic for the trade group....

I have 10-inch Picketts available for swapping (or sale): All are
white and in very good condition (satisfaction guaranteed). All have
cases, boxes, manuals, etc., except as indicated. All prices are
negotiable, especially if you buy more than one.

500-T $35
800-T $25
N-800-T $35
N-902-T $35
N-903-T $30
1010-T $25
N-1010-T $35 (mint)

120T (specially boxed with self-instruction manual) $30.
N803T (mint in plastic wrap, but no case, box, or manual). $20.

Also a mint 5-inch Pickett N400-T "Business rule". It's white, with
leather case, blue box, docs, etc. Virtually perfect condition. $40

I'm looking for 20-inch Hemmi-made rules (models 70, 50-20, 154,
201, 275, 275D, 279 and 279D) and the 16-inch model 200. No
swap necessary here. I'll pay for them.

I also want a 5-inch Versatrig (Post model 1451), with or without
case. I want these in Teledyne, Geotec, or Hughes Owens brands.

For the right model(s), I'll wheel and deal! I'll load you up
with Picketts. I'll add cash. I'm flexible. Email me if you think
we might work something out. Terms (shamelessly copied from Paul
Ross): I will pay shipping both ways if rule is not at least as good
as described; sales final otherwise. SHIPPING: At buyers risk and

and fill out the survey. Do you know how to use a slide rule?

The offer is limited to US and Canada, which excludes me
so I didn't even try completing the form

Ah well, it's not the end of the world. I've just got some more
crashproof self-powered NIB Faber 2/83N power rules :-))
Sorry, but unlike the above offerings, these ones aren't free.

I have placed for auction on e-bay my Analon Slide Rule Mandrel.

Item Number 501 358 096.

This mandrel is in very good condition since it was used to make only
one electroform (mold), it is the last mandrel made by K&E for the
last model slide rule in their line before the company stopped
producing slide rules completely. It was engraved in 1965, in 1967
K&E
decided to abandon the Analon after selling only 1000 rules.

Thank you for taking a look.

Greetings all,

I think the best possible compromise it to post the return conditions with the item listing.  Clearly state your position on the postage.  This way, the buyer knows up front what the conditions are, and nobody makes mistakes by "assuming" the conditions set out for the group as a whole.

This means that any listing would give the details of the item for sale/swap/wanted, the condition of the item,  the shipping costs and conditions, and the conditions for return.

If a prospective buyer is not pleased with any of the above, he can pass on the item.  This would save a lot of heartburn, and possibly prevent more serious problems.

Personally, I have had nothing but outstanding results in my dealings with each and every one of you.  I have found you all to be honest and generous to a fault.  I have tried throughout my dealings with you all to live up to your example.  What more can I say?

My thanks,

Michael O'Leary

Subject: [sliderule-trade] Guarantees

Hello group ---

Vince Tessier has commented on our proposed Unconditional Guarantee policy,
with doubts about a buyer's deciding after a few days that he wants to return
an item for refund...... after he simply "changed his mind ".

As Vince points out, the buyer should pay the freight for the original
purchase, as is normal practice for us.

However, if you buy something from me and decide that you don't want it, no
matter when or what the reason, I will pay return shipping costs and refund
your money.  I will chalk it up to poor description on my part in the first
place.  I would be duly embarrassed for sending you something you didn't like
or that didn't measure up to your expectations.

It appears to me that the chance of this becoming a problem within our group
is very remote.
Thanks, Vince, for your comments.
I strongly suggest the Unconditional Guarantee, but I certainly will not
reject postings from members who do not wish to use it.
Best,
Ted

I think this is a sterling idea. I think, though, one should also describe
'mint' very carefully indeed. It is quite funny to read some of the "mint"
item descriptions on eBay - typically they are grade C4/C5, but mostly C5 :)

In other words, though the gradings look great, they leave "mint" open to
interpretation. I believe it should be "absolutely pristine, as from the
factory". Note, in the case of poor manufacture, can this include
not-perfect items? That is, in the world of Russian calculators,
manufacture standards are very poor indeed... but is a shrinkwrapped rule
(well, they didn't shrinkwrap, but you get the gist) of poor manufacture
"mint" or is it "as new"?

As for the return policy, I believe the following should apply...

Seller should describe any/all faults on item. It is the sellers'
responsibility to clearly describe an item, and it is the buyer's
responsibility to enquire about any points which are important to the buyer.
I typically offer "money back if not exactly as described" - which motivates
me to describe all faults very carefully indeed. In the event of an item
being returned, I believe the seller/buyer should split the postage costs
(one pays for one way, one for the other).

Finally, it is important to stress the value of insurance. Don't expect a
buyer to compensate you if an item gets lost in the mail. Morally, perhaps
there is a point to be made for the buyer doing this... but if you want
insurance... PAY for it; it is only a dollar or two!

Just my 2 bits.

Cheers
A

Best,
Ted

Hello,

I have a list of rules for swap or sale, preferably swap. You can also
see the rules that I have in my collection and this way to offer other
different ones.
This list is available in: http://orbita.starmedia.com/~amedeo/crc.html

Remember, the rules that appear in Swap List are only those available to
exchange.

     Greetings from Venezuela,

     Amedeo Muscelli.

Re: return policy

In the case of a dispute or some degree of not-as-described, no
question.

However, there is the case of the typical three to seven days
inspection/approval, where the buyer says, "No, I don't think so,"
meaning "Not *exactly* what I wanted," and also "I changed my mind."

While none of the above includes any hint of deceptive or abusive
behavior, in the 'however' cases I cite the shipping costs (both ways)
are typically the burden of the buyer. That's the price of conducting
business not-in-person. My experience is with firearms, but I believe
this practice is typical of other specialty and collector's markets.

Greetings new members of The Slide Rule Trading Group [sliderule-trade] :

As we begin this new venture, here are a few thoughts ...

1. All members are invited and encouraged to post their lists of slide rules
and related items for sale, for trade and wanted. Our dealer friends
are
most welcome. We will not be bashful here about commercialism. This
site is for commerce in slide rules.

2. The subject line of Emails addressed to [sliderule-trade] should describe
the content of the Email. This is common eGroup etiquette, to enable our
members to determine quickly their interest.

3. Prices should be stated in all postings of items for sale, as a courtesy
to
      save time for our members.

4. Using your REPLY button to respond to postings will send your reply to
all members. Please do this only if you feel strongly that your reply
will
be of interest to all our members. Otherwise, please reply privately to
      the posting member.

5. When your transaction has been completed and your item has been sold
or traded or found, please post a notice to the group to that effect.

6. There is a very high degree of integrity and mutual trust among us. Thus,
it would be nice if we had an understanding that all items offered for
sale
or trade bear an Unconditional Guarantee. Our philosophy should be
"If you don't like what you received from me for any reason, I will
happily
refund your money and pay the postage both ways".

If you have thoughts or suggestions about any of the above or other subjects
relating to [sliderule-trade], I would like to hear from you.

Best regards.... and happy trading !
