In 2005 it will be a continuous feature of The Oughtred Society's

The Oughtred Society was founded in 1991 by a group of slide rule
collectors and is dedicated to the preservation and history of slide
rules and mechanical calculators. In the past thirteen years it has
evolved to an international organization of some 400 members. It is
noted for its highly acclaimed Journal of the Oughtred Society,
published twice per year.
The Society is a non-profit educational organization. Society goals
include the dissemination and sharing of information about slide
rules and mechanical calculators, and encouragement for collectors.
It is affiliated with organizations in the United Kingdom, Germany,
and The Netherlands.
Its activities are carried out by members who volunteer to do
various tasks and projects.  Membership is open to anyone.

The production of this SR is going very well, and I will have them
here around March 15th, 2005. At that point, my wife (Vickie) and I
will be addressing the bubble envelopes and ship them out over the
next couple of days.

The manual will be online. It was written by Steve Beadle, and is
without a doubt one of the finest manuals ever written for the
stadia rule. It is geared specifically for the Concise Stadia.

To see it, go to the files link in the ISRG. click "Concise Stadia
Instructions" then "CSCv0.pdf" [Unofficial English Guide, Concise
Stadia Computer].

Mr. Beadle will be removing the draft watermark, as well as make a
special publication cover page. In addition, the first page after
the cover will have a photo and tribute to Herman which was written
by Diny van Herwijnen, David Rance, and Otto van Poelje.

This will be the manual to accompany the SR, as the SR will not be
shipping with a paper version.

Steve will retain the copyright to the manual, but allow ISRG and
SRTG members to download and print copies for their own use.

As a small token of appreciation for Steve's work on this and his
generosity, I am asking for a volunteer to send one of their HvH
stadia SRs to him as a complimentary gesture. If you ordered more

Herman van Herwijnen Concise Stadia Memorial Edition

I have just now been in contact with Concise. Good news, the stadia
will also include the short 1 sheet (2 sided) stadia instructions in
Japanese. This is the instruction sheet that had been included in
the original runs of this rule. I am happy about this, as it is part
of the documentation, and adds to its completeness.

The HvH Memorial SRs are now manufactured, and will ship to me on
Monday, March 14th, 2005. I should have them about 10 days later,
and then they will ship out to individuals over the next few days
after that.
   I have posted 2 pictures of the rule and case in the ISRG photos
section. They are the last 2 photos, each labelled "Herman v..."
   As always, Concise has done a spectacular job on this project.
   A copy of the instructions in Japanese will be included (it is a
single two sided sheet). Steve Beadles outstanding Stadia manual is
in the files section, written in English. Steve has been very kind
to share this with us. It assembles into a very comprehensive 18
page manual.

The manual to accompany the Herman van Herwijnen Memorial Concise
Stadia Computer is now ready for your use.

It was written by Steven C. Beadle, and is possibly the best manual
written in English for the stadia computer.

It may be printed for personal use, and assembles very nicely into
an 18 page manual.

This manual has a special cover as well as a Dedication to Herman
with photo, which was written by Diny van Herwijnen, Otto van
Poelje, and David Rance.

Does anyone have a side plate adjusting screw for a Pickett N3
available? I think the same screw fits all the Pickett full-size
rules.

of
their rule(s) that are defective in any way, they will send you
replacements at no charge. The replacement will be a standard run
Concise stadia *without the special inscription*, as those are no
longer being produced.

For those who wish to pursue this, please email me *off list* with
how
many they need replacement of . Also, let me know what the defect is
so I may pass that on to them.

Herman van Herwijnen Memorial Concise Stadia Slide Rule

I received a response from Concise on how to handle this. If you
have
a rule that you deem is defective in any way, you may ship it to
them directly. If it can be repaired, that is what they will do, and
ship
it back to you. Here is a *very important point* : If it is
unrepairable, they will keep the rule, and send you a *standard
issue* stadia. That is, the same rule, but NO memorial inscription.
The run of HvH stadia rules is over, and will not be reopened, this
being in step with the fact that this is a very limited run special
edition slide rule. Only 200 were made.

When they ship back your repaired or replaced rule(s), they will
include inside the package, International postage stamps, value of
the
stamps to equal your shipping cost to them.

Please email me *off list* if you wish the shipping address to
Concise.
