I can't speak for the first part of the message, but can give you
some info on Peter Hopps book. It is called "SLIDE RULES Their
History, Models,, and Makers" It is published by Astragal Press at
5 cold hill Road #12 P.O. Box 239 Mendham, NJ 07945. I believe
it is about $35 on their webpage at:

Thanks for the info, Miles and Ron. My rule does have the "traditional" scales on the lower stator, which seems like a waste, the space could have been used...
