As part of my push to incorporate slide rules into my classroom this
fall, I've been working on developing a slide rule kit kids can build
in class. I've prototyped this out, and I think the kit can be built
for less than $2.50 per student in lots of 10 or so.
I have developed a written instruction set; photos/illustrations will
be added later and I plan to have a fully illustrated instruction set
ready to go for September.
I need some beta testers, friends! Anyone willing to build a student
slide rule, give some feedback on instructions, tips, techniques, etc?
I also need a better set of scales. I'm currently using the Savaard
scales published on the sliderule universe site, but there are a
number of flaws with this, a) too complex, b) the height difference
between primary and secondary marks on the scales is too small, making
it hard for students to read. Any suggestions???
If you want an e-mailed set of instructions (MSWord file), you can
e-mail me. I would love to get some feed back from the cognicenti.
Thanks a heap!
