Erica I think it's great that you're using a slide rule in your
classes. In fact one reason I joined this group is that I was
interested to find out how slide rules are used these days, but I
would suggest that maybe you need to compromise a bit by using a
calculator or computer sometimes if you're finding it too time-
consuming.

You asked whether you're just wasting time pursuing a romantic
notion. Well, the point is that if you find it more rewarding and
satisfying to use a slide rule, then that is a good enough reason to
do it. Let me make an analogy: I enjoy cycling for pleasure and
exercise and because it's very useful for short journeys, but if I
have to go on a long journey I use my car because it's more
practical. So there's no reason why you can't enjoy using your slide
as much as you can, for mental exercise and the satisfaction of doing
things the 'old-fashioned' way, but use other calculating aids when
you need a bit more speed.
