Amin,
That is the kind of input I really appreciate. While I do appreciate
the "utilitarian beauty of the sliderule," I always thought of it more
as an educational tool. Believe it or not, I was a Mathematics phob.
(I am sure that there are many here who are far better at Math than
me.) Visually oriented, I was better able to grasp the concept of
logarithms and Trig functions by working things on a sliderule. While
I would not use one for precise caclulation to a large number of
decimal points, I still think that, rather than consign a sliderule to
a glass display case, it would be a useful tool in Math education. If
we could slant this group to this kind of discussion, it would give us
a unique niche in the sliderule world.
I am open to ideas. I also encourage all of you to post any links,
documentation, photos or anything else that would add to this group.
sincerely,
sc
