Sorry everybody for the duplicate posting earlier. I was having troubles
sending to the list.
<< How loud was it during this process???? Anybody get any sleep?? >>
OH MAN!! It was the loudest I have ever heard it yet. I think it started
regulating when the 450 Wincharger I got from Ian started cranking out 25
amps and the battery voltage rose rapidly. I had the regulator set to the
max on the AIR because we need every ounce of power we can get out of it, and
I suppose when it started regulating at 32 or 33 volts or what ever it is,
plus cranking out 35 amps, the regulator just couldn't take it. After I took
it down that night, I got out the allen wrenches and cracked it open to see
if it smelled or anything. It stunk!! You could see that the alternator was
getting warm because the wiring leading out of it had ridges melted into the
insulation where they were against the windings. The entire thing got sent
back to AZ yesterday, and I don't know if they were just gonna fix it or if
they were going to replace it. The Lord knows I wouldn't mind a new 403, but
I'll bet the chances of that are pretty slim. Oh yeah, the battery voltage
is now hovering around 24.8 volts with no charging after the AIR was
removed........
