Asunto: [a-w-h] Re: [Fwd: Introduction Rafael Oliva]
Michael, Rafael,
In my new book there is a photo of an old Aerowatt at La Penguinera (sp)
near Punta Arenas, Chile and a photo of Rafael and his Bergey near Rio
Gallegos.
[Michael Krosta] Paul: You know that there is a sade story behind this old
Aerowatt?
Probably you know it! In the early 80 the Chilean Navy has bought around 60 -
80 of this french turbines to electrify remote lighthouses and seasignals. The
most of them are blown away, which means the have installed the turbines and
when they come back there was nothing on side. As I know something like 15
turbines are still working (One is near my office on the Navy training side for
lighthouse personal) the rest was replaced with SIEMENS solarpanels. And a few
turbines have been rebuild by the Universety of Punta Arenas, like the machine
at La Penguinera.
For your files, I will attache a photo of the BERGEY EXCEL we have installed on
Easter Island (World most remoted island and well known from his stoneheads or
Moai). With his 12 m tower this is the lowesed BERGEY EXCEL in the world. We
know the high is not very ideal!!! But it's based on logistic problems, to avoid
troubel with chileans nacional aviation office and NASA and then we have 10 m/s
average windspeed on side! The installation is only 200 m from the touch-down
point of Space Shuttels Easter Islands emergency runway! If you come from
Papeete (Frenche Polinesia, Thaiti) it's one the right side before your plaine
touch down.
Best regards
Michael Krosta
