Hi Tony,
I typically used the Final Glide screen to see a range of arrival heights at
various STF / MC values. Then adjust my speed based on my comfort level. (STF
checked)
Yes the terrain is taken into account on final glides. Please see this section
of the wiki manual
http://www.soaringpilot.org/dokuwiki/doku.php/soarpilot/final_glide_over_terrain
The terrain checks are continuous, and based on your direct path from your
current position to your target waypoint. Then running down the rest of the
remaining task legs.
The terrain data only has one point every kilometer, so don't expect it to show
fine valley details etc.
It will show a terrain conflict and adjust the final glide heights as required
if it calculates your AGL height to be less than your safety altitude at any
point.

Thanks Paul. I'll keep STF checked and fly defensively until it's clear I will be 'home a dry'.
A further question on terrain pse. Does the glide height required field take into account any high ground approaching, that is, on the present track? If so, how often is the required height revised by SP? I'm thinking here about a scenario of flying across Scotland where there are lots of hills in the way on pretty much any XC. Flying with the STF unchecked makes SoarPilot act as a McCready ring, showing

Hi Tony
when you are optimizing for speed you are aiming to get from a to b as faster as possible (based on your MC value)
if you do not have this option checked then the speed to fly is maximising the distance you can glide. So flys slower to covered height.
Check in the files section in the group. I think there already terrain files for the uk you can directly download and hotsync to your palm

OK i've looked at the code, and right now you get the Task WP screen if you have
a task active, instead of the waypoint list.
There is currently no option to have the Task WP screen directly in the screen
order. This should be triggered by you wanting to change a waypoint.
Therefore, I propose to change the program so it acts as before.
ie: If the waypoint list is the next screen in the chain, it will directly bring
up the waypoint list, giving you the opportunity to see the list, and if you
want select a temp waypoint (putting the task on hold)
The Task WP screen will still not be available in the screen chain, but this can
be accessed by Tapping the CSE/SPD fields on the Final Glide and Moving Map
screen, or the calc silk screen button, or the voice record button.

So you want to bring up the Task Waypoint dialog, but the use the button again
to move down the screen chain.

Hi Paul,
please leave the logic as it is, just enable transition from the Task WP screen

Hi Tony
when you are optimizing for speed you are aiming to get from a to b as faster as
possible (based on your MC value)
if you do not have this option checked then the speed to fly is maximising the
distance you can glide. So flys slower to covered height.
Check in the files section in the group. I think there already terrain files for
the uk you can directly download and hotsync to your palm

Whiling away the hours on CONDOR earlier today I was on a triangle in Scotland - all irrelevant but I thought you might like to know!
However, I happened on something on which I have a question and which the statement below, from the
SP manual, does not answer. so, "Why, when STF is checked - see Final Glide Setup screen - is the suggested STF - as seen on the Map screen - higher than in the un-checked mode?"

I can change the behaviour of the waypoint list so when it is accessed from the
screen order, it will bypass the waypoint select dialog when a task is active,
and go directly to selecting a temp waypoint (putting the task on hold)
Does anyone else have a view on this change?

Paul Sorry, forget about the first item - my fault.
Mark thanks for the reply, I am not complaining, SP runs OK. On T3 in closed
state you can not see the info bar at the bottom of the screen. My suggestion
was to add the info bar similar to the devices without DIA (aka TT) only for the
closed state. But that is realy not that important.

There is an additional patch you need to load for the TT3 I believe that will make the display work properly. I thought it was in the files section of the yahoogroup still. Do a search on some of the old postings in the yahoogroup and/or the wiki site and you should find info about it.

Hallo Paul,
two comments on the latest beta.
First on the map setting screen I can not set, how many legs of the task will be

You can already have 2 radii for the last turnpoint.
Add 2 identical waypoints at the end of the task.
The last one should have the smaller finish radius.
The one before mark as an area with the larger radius.
If the task distance does not include reaching the inner radius, mark this
turnpoint as "Landing", and set the finish radius to the larger.

Hello all
After reviewing all the actions made. I came to the conclution that the problem
of hanging SP, was related to the new case that I installed. This case was
pressing the REC button on the side of my IQUE 3600, and after some time It was
causing the crash on the program. Without the case the Unit plus the software

Still I would like to requestr Paul, to consider the adding to the goal
waypoint, the 2 radious, This is very important for paragliding and hangliding
competitions and usually it is called SPEED SECTION.
Thanks

I just installed the latest beta, taken the week of Nov 15. I run into a big problem on a paragliding competition, but still do not know if it was my fault
If I have the aplication running on the ground It works OK, as I am able to enter the route for the competition, But as soon as I get airborne, the screen freezes and goes flat. the only way to exit it, is by reseting the palm. that did happended on the first 2 days of competition.
On the third day I had a little accident so could not try new settings.
NOW, it could be my fault, BUT I haven´t have the time to research on this due to my accident, But It could be due to I did create a little, housing for the IQUE 3600, so I could put it easily on my Flight deck, But it looks like the container is to tight (strech, small) and it could be pressing the bottons on the side, possibly causing it to hang out. on the third day I was going to try the IQUE without the housing but unfortunatelly, A big thermal came and force me to land on my head.... baddddd
As soon as I investigate on this issue I will let the group know, so in the case of a prpblem with the latest beta, paul can look into it, or if it is my fault(very possible) you guys could dismiss this email. I just want to warn you guys ahead.
REQUEST:
I have a request for your evaluation.
on paragliding competitions USUALLY there are 2 radious for the goal. the first radio is the end of the SPEED section, and the second radious is the actual goal.
It works like this:
We have a goal with a radious of 400 meters, and it is sorrounded by a radious of 2 KM, whis is the radious marking the end of the speed section. When we are competing, the day´s competition TIME ends when we touch the SPEED radious, but the actual competition ends when we actually touch the 400 meters radio. So if we touch the SPEED section but we do not reach the inner or 400 meters section is like we did not finish the task, But if I touch the SPEED section FIRST than the other competitors , and then arrive (last among the other competitors) to the inner section or 400 meters radious, STILL I won the competition.
I would like to ask Paul, if it is possible to create for the goal the option of 2 radious just like on the other waypoints that already have this 2 radious option.
Thanks
Note: I have become so adicted and dependent to this software SP, that I could easily won the competition, but when my device when flat, I could not figure out the route, and my GPS at that precise moment could not give me the information about my next waypoint which was just ahead of me, I could not let the brakes go to manipulate the gps (vey turbulent 12+ m/s broken thermals), to see were I was supposuse to go next, and lost few minutes and couple of hundred of metters, before I could realize the next waypoint, It was late, and I ended up being in the 5th place. Then I don't understand. Assuming of course you entered the sector and logged enough points to validate the turn.
If you first turnpoint was FAI and you turned very close to the turnpoint you may not have logged enough points.
If you Palm ran flat, how did it continue to work?

Then I don't understand. Assuming of course you entered the sector and logged
enough points to validate the turn.
If you first turnpoint was FAI and you turned very close to the turnpoint you
may not have logged enough points.
If you Palm ran flat, how did it continue to work?

Can someone please help ?
After entering a task soarpilot pointed me towards the first turn-point
after reaching the turn-point it kept directing me around the turn point in
circles rather than advancing towards the next point.
Also on the start the starting point was 200 meters directly in front of me
after passing it, it was also not recognized.
This problem just started after my palm ran flat.
Cheers Frank
Cheers Mark. Might have a look over the weekend as the weather looks iffy.

I have a 12xl as well. It is configurable. If you've never changed it, then it's probably 4800. However, Frank is right that bumping it up to 9600 isn't a bad thing. It's easy to change in the settings. You might not even NEED the manual to find it. :-)
Have the BT thingy and everything is set up. Works well. Amazing for ~$7.
When I return to using my Palm T for RL flying, probably next season now, I'll have to reset the NMEA Input to accept input from my Garmin. I know this will be Serial but should I reset the baud to 9600 or ?? from the 4800 it is now at? Any other changes?
Yes, everything should be the same, as Condor outputs at a fixed rate
(4800 bps) and with fixed parity, stop bits, etc.

Frank

Hi Frank,
Have ordered a BT thingy from eBay UK. About $7 delivered !!
Do you know whether the settings you gave me before will be the same?
I realise I'll have to set the T to BT, not USB or Serial....

Tony,
Yep - a 'BT thingy' should work OK too, and it might be cheaper/easier
than a USB-to-Serial adaptor. I think the one on CablesToGo costs
around $37 U.S. and you might be able to get a BT adaptor for less than
that. Come to think of it, my current laptop has BT built in - I just
never use it! ;-)

Tony,
AFAIK, you can't use the USB cable to connect to Condor via NMEA.
However, you *can* use the cradle's serial cable to connect using a
serial-to-USB adaptor to connect to your PC (I've been doing this for
years). You will need a serial-to-USB adaptor of course - I use the
CEFC one (blue connector, silver cable) from "Cables To Go" (http://www.cablesto
go.com/product. asp?cat_id= 1529&sku=26886)
and it has worked flawlessly for years.
Plug the USB-to-Serial adaptor into the PC (you may have to go through
the New Hardware wizard the first time). In the Device Manager on your
PC, locate the 'Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port' line and note the
port number (COMx) where 'x' is a number. Right click on this line and
select 'Properties' , then click on the 'Port Settings' tab. Make sure
the speed is set at 4800 bps, Data bits = 8, Parity = none, Stop bits =
1, Flow control = none.
In Setup/Options, check the 'Enable' box under NMEA output, and make
sure the port number is the same one being used by the USB-to-Serial
adaptor as noted above. If you can't find the above port number on the
list in Condor, you *may* have to go into the 'Advanced... ' page on
the
hardware device manager properties page for the USB-to-Serial port and
change the port number to something that Condor can see. This
shouldn't be necessary, as Condor should be able to see all comm ports
enumerated by the device manager.
On the Tungsten T, launch SP and go to Settings and select the
"NMEA/Port" settings page. Make sure the NMEA Input type is set to
'serial' and the baud rate is set for 4800 (Condor outputs at a fixed
4800 bps).
That should do it - let me know if you have any trouble, and I'll be
happy to help you get going. You can email me directly at paynter.5@osu.
edu or call me at 614 539-3316 (home), 614-638-6749
