Raj is absolutely correct, Sunny. Certifications
aren't worth anything if you can't back them up with real knowledge.
Look at all the MCSE's who went through a "training course" that
promised that they'd have a job at the end making large amounts of
money. Worthless.

Fortunately, most hiring managers worth their salt are now able
to smoke out "paper" sysadmins fairly easily.
Grab a copy of Solaris and bang on it a while, then get the
certifications to prove you actually know something.
Otherwise you'll end up suffering a lot of humiliation at the hands of
those who do. If you don't, you might slip by a hiring manager, but the
sysadmins you'd end up working with would eat you alive.

You cant study braindumps and pass these exams like MCSEs. Try to get as
much hands on possible. FOr this I would suggest you to get a copy of free
solaris media from Sun and install it on of the old intel box. Buy Bill
Calkins Solaris 7 certification book, practice while you study. This is how
I completed it. Moreover if you already have prior experiecne with any
flavour of unix, then it will be more easy.

I got almost equal number of questions from the following and more harder
than expected:

NFS,NIS,CDE,JUMPSTART,AMDINSUITE,INSTALLATION,SAF,DISKSUITE etc.

Hope this helps.

Try DNS tools at the site below, there are several scripts that will
auto generate a basic DNS conf files. After that you will need to know
how to do the updates manually, or you could write your own script I guess.

Look over the multiboot guide. I had similar problems with trying to
install Win 2K and Solaris 8 on one hard disk and finally gave up and
bought a second drive and picked the boot device by changing the bios
configuration. A bit drastic, but it worked :-)

Most Sun and Microsoft Sales people will have this information readily
available.

Personally I run a network with Solaris (sparc/intel) Linux
(RedHat/Suse) Windoze NT/2000/XP and Netware.

Haven't found the "perfect" operating system that will do it all (yet).

The only person that can answer this question is you. You need to
decide what you want from an OS, and then find one that meets those
needs. Everyone is different and what is important to one person may
not be important to someone else. Find what works best for you, and
then go that route.

The 810 & 815 motherboard generally work OK, although many have ACPI bugs
in the BIOS that confuse Solaris (or vice-versa). If you use 7/01 or 10/01
the video will be supported correctly. Any earlier version needs a patch.

Just because you have a free partition does not mean you have free disk
space. If disk space is allocated to that partition Solaris will not use
it, because it is not free and available. Delete the partition to free up
the space. Also, you should verify that NT did not use all your disk. It
likes to do that, because Mr. Bill figures you would never want to install
another OS...

Use disk 1 of 2 and not the Installation disk.

What Update version of Solaris 8 are you using? If it is an older one or
the FCS version, your disk may be too large. I am guessing you mean you
are using an IDE disk of some sort, since you provided no info aside from
the name of the manufacturer here.

I could give you a long list and it would include many viruses and worms

Your shell is probably using a directory as the current directory, or else
some other task has it's PWD set to somewhere on the CD.

1) Creative is supposed to be working on a driver for their PCI sounds cards,
but I don't know what the status is. You might check with them directly.

2) The hope is that XFree86 can be included with just the VESA driver at some
point. During installation we would use the VESA driver only and then you
would try and choose the correct hardware driver during the reboot, if one
exists. But that is for the future and will *not* make it into Solaris 9
FCS, because the proper legal agreements for bundling it are not yet in
    place.

As for the original posting of this thread, using XFree86 with VESA mode will
not cost any money. Also, a Matrox 550 driver will be coming in the future.
I know they have the card already.

Hi people

I've downloaded the CD's and burnt them fine. I was going to put the labels on
the CD's but when I download them I notice they are not laid out on the PDF in
the same way as the labels I have. The labels I have have a cd at the top left
and bottom right of the paper. On the downloaded ones though
one is directly below the other.

Anyone got a label sheet that is in the format I require?

TIA

I'm 100% in agreement here.... (what have you done with the
real bob? :) )

Seriously, Sun can move a long way to fixing this problem just
by doing the following:

1) Add drivers for AC97 and SBLive! and maybe incorporate the
    OSS API
2) Incorporate the XFree drivers into kdmconfig and upgrade
the base from 4.03 to 4.1 (a real bonus would be to get
    the multimonitor support working)
3) Add SSE/SSE2 support.
4) Allow some way of installing via ftp/http (ie cdless with
    no jumpstart server)
5) Lower the cost of the forte tools. For the record, the
discounted price of forte is about what M$ charges for VS,
but Sun doesn't have their developers by the gonads like M$
    does.

Buggered if I know, mate. I didn't buy mine. However, I'm sure that
there's some one out there who's about to buy and sees it as a
bargain.

Hi,

I am installing solaris 8 on Pentium-III 500 MHz with intel motherboard. The
problem is that the system stops responding after "No suitable solaris fdisk
partitions found" & "may the solaris installer create a solaris fdisk [y,n,?]".
After this i am unable to input anything as the system stops responding...

I have already disabled power management and caching(read/write).
I am using AMI BIOS & Samsung Hard Disk.

Please help...

Thanks in advance

Given how Solaris 2.5.1 is now five years old and you can download the
Solaris 8 CD ISO images for free from Sun (or pay $35 for the physical media),
is there any particular reason why you're attempting to install Solaris 2.5.1
on the new machine ?

Hi friends if you are interested in passing any IT certification like MCSE, MCSD, MCDBA, CCNA, CCNP, CCDA, CCIE, OCP ( Both DBA & Developer ), Sun Solaris, JAVA and ALL OTHERS  with 100% passing guarantee then this is for you.

I can provide you Q that will come word to word same on your actual exam, even the sequence of the options will be same and all this with 0% risk

Here how it goes with 0% risk for you

Whenever you are going for any certification mail me I will send the stuff of one exam free of cost, u take it, pass it and then if u feel satisfied and want other exam then u have to pay.

U can download exam stuffs from briefcase.yahoo.com/vicky75_vicky Or www.it-certification.net

So if u have any doubt like it may be a fraudulent activity or else then I will say that don’t trust us because there is no need for u to trust us in this dealing  as everytime you are paying for the exam u have passed already. It is like getting some item, use it and if u are fully satisfied then u pay. So there is no risk involved for u. it is me who is on the risk .

If  you are not believing all this, show my stuff to any friend of you who have taken that exam. He will tell you how real it is.

But please note one point very carefully. Around 95% of the mail I receive have this confusion. I have fixed some exam that I give for trial like 70-215 for MCSE, 70-176 for MCSD, PL-SQL for OCP, 505 for CCNP etc….

I don’t give exams other than these for trial. if  you are going for any certification,  either start from these exams Or if u have taken them then there is no need for trial exam as you can easily verify my stuff since you have already taken that exam.

Suppose someone is preparing for MCSE and he wants to start from exam other than 215 say 217. then he ask me that as a sample free of cost and when I refuse it he suppose that I am going back of my words. I want to make it clear that I don’t give other exams for trial since people can mail us with different email addresses and may demand diff exams for trial.

If u have any queries, mail me at vicky73_Vicky@...

CHARGES :

MCSE, MCSD, MCDBA-------$200 for two exams

70-240---------------------------  $ 300

OCP-------------------------------$150 each

CCNA2.0 ------------------------$ 300

CCNP-----------------------------$ 400 each

CCIE------------------------------$ 1000

SOLARIS  7------------------------$300 each

Hi there

I have just tryed to install solaris 2.5.1 on a dell optiplex gx150
which works just fine but it can not detect the network card
Kingston KNE100TX or even a 3c905-TX. With a slightly older
motherboard all is ok. Booting with the DU11a boot disks on the gx150
it detects either network card but can not plumb it.

The output of prtconf looks like (on the working machine)
(extars stuff chopped)

pci, instance #0
     ....
     pci2646,1 ...
     ....
     etc

and on the gx150

pci, instance #0
     ....
     pci8086,244e ..
        pci2626,1 ...
     ....

which looks like it is a sub instance of pci8086,244e. Not sure what
this is bus-master?

Anyway does anybody no how to fix/fool solaris to see the card as a
subinstance or point me in the right direction

Cheers

Mark

I have a pile of software, about a week ago I started to throw out my
old Solaris 7 Media and demo CD's I received from SUN, btw, SUN is
almost as bad as AOL in terms of the number of CDs ;), however, in my
glorious wisdom, just a couple of days ago, realised that I put my
Forte C++ media in one of the CD folders I threw out! I was luck in
that I kept the licenses in a totally different place, my license
folder.

Maybe you tryed to start some sort of process that did start but you didn't
se it. Check that with 'ps -ef' and look if any process is started from cd.

Sorry about that. It is in $US. Btw, is $US800-1000 a little high? or
on the dot. I have sold the Sparc Version for that amount without any
problems. Is it a different case for the intel version?

Um, yep. Mine's little (compared to the pyramids of Giza).

Were those prices USD or NZD? I only ask because you mention NZD at
the end of your mail, and I think you might appreciate the
clarification, where I wouldn't because it'd make it a lot more
expensive :-)

Time to clean out my un-used software collection (I'm sure most
people have a little pile in their study).

2 x Forte C++ Personal Ed. 6/Intel
       Rights to Use: 1

* I do not have the media for them, however, you can download
the "preview version", aka Forte C++ update 2, then all you have to
do is register it.

Normal list price as listed on the SUN website: $1,995.00 however, I
am selling it for anywhere between $800-$1000 or nearest offer.

1 x Forte Fortran DT Ed 6/SPARC
      Rights to Use: 1

Normal list price as listed on the SUN website: $1,500.00 however, I
am selling it for anywhere between $500-$800 or nearest offer.

Unfortunately, 22 December, I'm going for a holiday, so, if possible,
any inquires to be before then. Since all that is being shipped is a
license card, the total cost of shipping will probably be around $NZ2.

Maybe foreign aid packages should include Solaris x86
CD's so this kind of garbage can be eliminated once and for all ;)

Interesting though, a strings on the binary listed an ip address that
pointed to a compuserve system.
