Neither one. There is no schedule at this time for a JDS 4 backport
to a Solaris 10 update release.

For desktop users, nv_53 should be awesome. Gnome 2.16, Firefox 2.0,
Gnome System Tools, DRI for i845/i855/i865/i915, and, just integrated
today, for the first time ever, the nvidia accelerated drivers/GL as
part of the Solaris OS install. Attentive viewers may note that it
also doesn't have kdmconfig run at install time anymore due to the
replacement of Xsun with Xorg as the install-time X server.
It will still be Xorg 6.9 though. I had been hoping to get 7.2 RC 2 into
nv_54, but it's not going to be ready, so we're now targeting nv_56 for
Xorg 7.2. That should include AIGLX for devices with DRI support (nvidia
already provides accelerated indirect GLX in their driver), 64-bit Xorg
server, and Xephyr. (As always with software under development, final dates
and features are always subject to change before completion.)
And if all that doesn't have you drooling, I got to chat with the developers
of Beryl (the fork of compiz) breifly at the Ubuntu Developer Summit last week
and they're now excited about supporting Solaris so they can work with Sun's
accessibility team to make Beryl's screen zoom work well as a screen magnifier
for accessibility - but with all the beryl eye candy. (If you don't know what
beryl or compiz are, see http://www.beryl-project.org/ &
http://www.go-compiz.org/ ) It's too early to say if/when/which-of these may
be included in Solaris, but if we supplied everything in Solaris, what would
Blastwave have left to do? 8-)
