I just saw this update posted on an internal alias by Gilles Gravier:
So I tried the latest alpha build of Skype 1.4 for Linux (
https://developer.skype.com/LinuxSkype ) but it doesn't run in a BrandZ
zone.
1) It requires DBus... which isn't in the Gnome environment of our very
dated CentOS.
2) It requires ALSA... which we don't support.
The good news is :
1) They are planning a build that will test for presence of DBus... and
only use it if it is present....
2) They will soon also support OSS in addition to ALSA, in a future
alpha build...
So it should end up working.
But... They are also in the mood to do a native Solaris port... It just
takes time as their priority is first the Linux port...
