Hello,
I finished reading Ben Bova's latest novel "PowerSat" several days ago. It was
more of a Dan
Brown-esque murder thriller than a sci-fi novel. Despite this, it was a pretty
fun read and
the science wasn't completely off. The culminating scene in the book revolves
around
terrorists taking the SPS transmitter and focusing it into a "death ray."
Besides not being
very good PR for SPS, the method used by the terrorists to focus the beam is
probably
infeasible or maybe even impossible (I'll leave that to the engineers to
decide). Bottom line,
its a fun read and Ben gets across the point that SPS can provide energy
independence for
the US and the world.
