Well good point, full speed ahead. Simply put at a minimum there are
technical means to disable any such scheme. Here on Planet Earth we
have a working worldwide Non-Proliferation organization that Nations
join and follow the protocols. If they don't follow the Treaty's terms,
it is very bad for members to get out of line.
SPS's are going to be extremely visible and inspectable on orbit. A
weaponized version is going to be frankly a big easy target. The U.S.
is not going to let any such weaponized SPS to get loose on orbit.
Further and more importantly SPS's are about making money not about
being a weapon. Weaponized SPS's are a problem with multiple solutions.
I'm more concerned about economic competition keeping SPS's on the
ground. Does anyone know of someone doing serious SPS economic research?
