Welcome to the Song Translators' Guild. This group is dedicated to the obscure yet challenging art of translating song lyrics and other poetry into any language! Professional and amateur song/poetry translators are welcome, as are foreign language students or teachers of any level.

Here, you can share your song and/or poetry translations for critique. You can also discuss strategies and techniques of finding that difficult balance between faithfulness to the meaning of the original lyrics and compatibility with the song or poem's rhythm, beat, and melody.

Although literal translations can be shared or discussed, the emphasis of this group will be on "pro canendo" (i.e. singable, prosodic) translations. Translations can be in any language. However, there is no guarantee that there will be another group member who knows the target language and is therefore qualified to give feedback. Therefore, this group will most likely focus on the most commonly learned second languages among native anglophones (especially Romance).
