How to reformat Sony VAIO R505DL without docking station?   Message List

Hello,

Can the Sony R505DL boot off a firewire Asus CD-RW drive that is
not "Sony brand"? I do not have my docking station anymore, and I do
not have access to my R505DL at the moment to confirm...my girlfriend
is coming back from Europe, and I would like to make sure I can format
the computer using the firewire CD-RW drive...thanks!

... No, most all Sonys work the same way and refuse to boot from anything but specific Sony peripherals. You'll need the docking station, or any of the Vaio CD...
