I only know there two main standard/kind of CD-ROMs.
They are different.
Once i had a combo of one brand, i faced the same problem with you.
When changed another DVD-ROM, it worked.
So, maybe you just got the wrong CD-ROM.
Just try to change another one with another standard, you can fix this problem.
