LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – March 01, 2004 – A Georgia Tech graduate who
works in a hospital Emergency Room here has won a free trip to "the
edge of space and back" through the Travelers Advantage® "Edge of
Space" Sweepstakes. Kara Sutton of Lawrenceville, GA, has won the
free Space Adventures® trip that is valued at more than $16,500.
"This month, Kara will travel to Russia, be strapped into a MiG-25
and soar above 99 percent of Earth's atmosphere where she will see
the blackness of space above and the curvature of Earth below,"
Travelers Advantage Vice President Julia Ryan said. "She was one of
more than 50,000 entries we received online at
http://www.travelersadvantage.com/.
"I was in Ecuador studying when I started getting these e-mails
saying I had won a trip, but I did not think I had really won the
trip," Ms. Sutton said. "Then an e-mail came through saying they had
talked to my dad about the trip and I realized I had actually won
the trip.
"I'm really excited to be going to Russia and heading up to
the `Edge of Space.' I've been interested in space since elementary
school when we all watched the Space Shuttle being launched on TV
together. Now I'll get to fly to the edge of space, the place where
the blackness of space meets the atmosphere. I'll look down and see
the curvature of Earth – something most people on Earth will never
see. And I'll get to visit Moscow."
A Georgia Tech graduate, Ms. Sutton currently works as a Specialty
Technician in the Emergency Room at Gwinnett Medical Center in
Lawrenceville, GA. After her trip, she plans to pursue graduate
studies at the University of Iowa to become a Physician Assistant.
