Thanks for the responses to my question on the origin of the naming
of the s p d f orbitals. It makes more sense now.

I have two further questions.

What are the frequency ranges transmitted by quartz glass and normal
glass? Many years ago I worked in a biochemical lab and had to use
quartz glass containers when measuring in the uv spectrum. Actually
while on that subject, what are the differences in composition
between the two types of glass?


I know that domestic microwaves heat up the water contained in food.
But what does the microwave frequency sorrespond to in the water
molecules? Stretching frequencies of the O-H bonds? Any ideas please!
