Re: [britststr] Re: Crosby Strads - How many exist?
It's funny you mention how many TC 50's were produced. Well, I got this information as recently as Sunday from JB himself. Nearly 20,000 pairs of TC 50's were made. His exact words, "just shy of 20,000". I didn't ask him about the other models.
JB is till in Santa Fe, NM and is doing very well.
As far as the Crosby purchases, JB says he believes Crosby purchased 1 to 2 dozens of TC 50's. He said he was aware of the Crosby mods but that was about it.
I want to point out that Crosby could have also made purchases from a dealer friend. But usually specialist modders will purchase either direct from the factory or from the Representative for the particular area of responsibility or distributor. I didn't ask JB about that possibility.
If someone here in the group needs an answer to a question I will be happy to ask
JB. But keep it short. Also, have patience because I don't check my email as often as I once did. I will get you an answer if I can.
There are a few knowledgeable gentlemen here in the group and they are always watching and doing their best to assist us. I'm not one to deal with circuits but I know good sound when I hear it. The TC 50 has been dear to me since 1986. I purchased my first pair of TC 50's then instead of a pair of Accoustat Model One + Ones which I loved until I heard the TC 50 at half the price. I never regretted it.
Enjoy and Happy Listening
Badassie

Thanks Badassie,
I did hear from someone who said Crosby was buying direct, but didn't know how many were produced -- which is at the core my question.
I heard a lot about these during that period and wonderred just how many 'stads' were produced. I suppose the bigger question does anyone know how many TC-50's were produced?
I suppose we can assume it was more than 7500, but did it it reach 10 or 20,000?
