When we say that SpTranslators is not a "job board", I would consider
that restriction to cover cases where a translator advertises his or
her availability to accept work, or an agency announces a text that it
is trying to place with a freelancer, or invites potential freelancers
to submit their CVs.
But information about competitive examinations -- as in the case of
the UN exams being conducted this year -- is something very different.
Lots of translators apply to write these examinations as part of their
career development, and see passing these exams as a professional
milestone.
Much the same applies in the case of the qualifying examinations for
membership in an association such as ATA.
I am sure that a number of SpTranslators subscribers found the
information about the UN examinations worthwhile and, even if they did
not apply themselves, may have forwarded the information to friends
and colleagues who might be interested in applying.
So I would agree with Julio and Patrick that the information is
entirely appropriate for posting on the SpTranslators list (and
covered by item 17 in the list's FAQs).
Best wishes,
- Daryl
For reference, item 17 of the SpTranslators FAQs reads as follows:
"This Group is dedicated to the problems of Spanish <> English
translation. Therefore, as long as your message concerns an issue that
is DIRECTLY RELEVANT to Spanish <> English translation, then anything
goes. You are free to discuss terminology or a difficult word or
phrase, trade leads on useful dictionaries and Internet resources,
talk about software and operating systems, discuss rates, education
and accreditation procedures, ethics and client problems, etc."

Thank you for bringing this to my attention -- I did not receive any
posting to SpTranslators on this, which is as it should be, since ALL
job postings are banned. On SpTranslators, they are considered to be
spam.
So, a reminder to all:
SpTranslators is NOT a job board.
Kindly keep all such announcements OFF the list.
Thank you.
