Re: adware

AVG 8.0 is garbage and bloatware. It used to be an acceptable, though
far from the best, program. Those days are long gone since Intel bot
40% of its shares and 8.0 was released. It no longer plays well with
other security programs, such as the mission-critical SpywareBlaster
and SUPERAntiSpyware. AVG 8.0 is huge and eats massive system
resources ~ purposefully so .. most of that drain does zero for your
system ~ its purpose is solely to protect AVG from allowing other
security programs onto your system. They're taking Intel's cue and
playing monopoly. Great for them but bad for their paying and
obviously non-paying users.

If you're running VISTA or XP, uninstall AVG immediately via
add/remove. Install Avira's AntiVir for your Anti-Virus program.
Install SPYWAREBlaster for your Hosts File protection. Install
SUPERAntiSpyware for your anti-spyware protection. If you are a novive
or intermediate user, install Mozilla's Firefox as your DEFAULT web
browser in Windows. If you are an expert user, you may prefer the
Opera Browser.

Most all this is to naught without a brilliant software firewall.
Regrettably, there are paltry few freeware ones left. Only one happens
to be top~rated by the industry and you will hate it if you're not an
expert user and don't follow this one rule: set it on LEARNING MODE
and LEAVE IT there forever. Its name is Comodo Firewall Pro.

Never use two anti-virus programs on your system. Never use two
software firewall programs on your system. Disable all unnecessary or
unidentifiable start-up programs from your system, via Windows
Defender's *Software Explorer.* Most all programs by reputable firms
will be easily identifiable as their's.

Unless you are expert at constructing and reconstructing your Windows
Registry, never use so-called registry cleaners. Their benefits are
far overstated and their costs can be lethal to the novice or
intermediate user. If you want to clean the crap off you system
safely, install ATF Cleaner.

Never use *BETA* programs if you're anything less than an intermediate
to expert user who is running it on a machine you are happy to destroy
in effort to trial developmental, pre-release software.

That's your start. Google all the above for links to their sites to
download and install once you've removed your current a/v
and software f/wall.

This is not a Help Group.

Any Help offered is in good faith by the managers and fellow members.
No member of this Group nor Yahoo will be held responsible for

If you continue to have trouble, please join our colleagues at
http://msn.groups.com/communityfeedback and post your issue(s) to
their General board. The Managers there will solve your stuff, if it's
solvable. Word of honor. Post your problem using a SPECIFIC Subject
Line. *Adware* is a not specific Subject Line in Networking and
Internet Security. It is far too broad and can apply to any sort of
ad-related malware. This sort of malware runs the gamut from minor
nuisances to system killers.

Depending on your operating system, some of the above-ref programs may
not be compatible. XP 64bit definately and Vista 64bit most probably
may cause some problems with some of the above software, as well as
many other software programs.

Read all ToS before downloading any / all software ~ make sure what
you're getting into before download.

Most all software ToS says a number of legal things ~ the one relevant
to this post is that most all say they will not be held liable for
problems caused by using their software and you are using it as-is
where-is (legalese for *don't blame us if we kill your system; our
software is provided as-is without liability ~ please do not use our
software if you don't understand how to use it properly. Read all
instructions before use to ensure you understand how to use it
properly*).

Happy Computing!
