Hi,

To take log backup you need to give this command:

BACKUP DATABASE DB_NAME TO DISK='PATH\BACKUP_NAME' WITH NOTRUNCATE_ONLY

Hi

We requires that unsuccessful and successful login attempts be logged
With the excessive log files now being created is it recommended/approved to
only capture unsuccessful logins for Microsoft SQL Servers ?

For one month  141,316 entries have been added to the SQL log file on our server
Is this large number normal ?
Will the log file become unmanageable ?

There is also a significant number of logins for USA\sqlsvc - Why?

It all depends upon your requirement. If your audit requirement requires for
both successful & unsuccessful logins, you have to record it. Put a script to
recycle the error logs daily.

Now once or twice in a week the Rebuild Index Task is fails as below

Failed:(-1073548784) Executing the query "ALTER INDEX [PK_TestSet_Now] ON

HI Sentil,

Error itself telling that your process has been killed as a Dead Lock victim. It
means at the same time you are running some other process or jobs also, that is
creating dead lock. You can check those...or if you want to catch dead lock
information....enable the trace flag 1222 by DBCC TRACEON command. This trace
will log all dead lock information in your sql server error log.

This approach will not work in OLTP systems which requires 24/7 availability. If
you put in single user mode it will be a complete down time for the application.
The better approach would be to run the reindex during which the system is used
minimally.

Radhey,

//Take the database into the single user mode run the index rebuild and then
agin back to the multi user mode
This is the standard procedure to rebuild index in the production//

This approach will not work in OLTP systems which requires 24/7 availability. If
you put in single user mode it will be a complete down time for the application.
The better approach would be to run the reindex during which the system is used
minimally.

HI Sentil,

Error itself telling that your process has been killed as a Dead Lock victim. It

Kindly help me on this to get it resolved.

if issue is because of deadlock, the reindex job gets fail, then solution is,we
have to think which contending sql statement creating deadlock victim.

if  the server has sql server 2008.

Hi,

Are the backups going into tape from the shared location. If you have
then you can ask your backup team to restore the file and you can make them
in sync. If you dont then you need to take the full backup and start it
again.

Thanks
Mohan

If you have lost the transaction log backup file then you dont have any option
other than, taking a full backup and restoring and recreating the logshipping.
