The City of Ames Public Works Department, in cooperation with Prairie Rivers RC&D and the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture is hosting a series of Rain Garden Workshops
Attend a class and learn how to install and maintain a rain garden on your residential property. In addition to being beautiful, rain gardens
- reduce stormwater runoff rate and volume
- remove pollutants that normally make their way to our drinking water
- increase groundwater recharge
- require less maintenance since there is no mowing, fertilizer or watering once established
- may increase property values with creative landscaping designs
- increase habitat for birds and butterflies
- done correctly, native landscaping has enormous potential for good
