April 21st NatureMapping
"A hands-on training opportunity is available for wildlife enthusiasts
and recreationists. NatureMapping is a citizen-based volunteer wildlife
monitoring program that is offering a training on April 21st in
Johnston, IA. NatureMapping volunteers monitor at times and locations
of their choosing (which can include anywhere from parks to rivers to
their own backyard) and report sightings of species encountered.
NatureMapping can be done on an individual basis or as part of a
concerted effort by a group. (You might like to include it as part of
your IOWATER assessments)
The NatureMapping program
[www.extension.iastate.edu/naturemapping/homepage.html is the home
website] has scheduled training workshops across the state and is
seeking those interested in becoming participants in the training. The
training takes about 6 hours on a Saturday. Registration per person is
$30. Visit the web for a complete workshop listing and details.
NatureMapping was developed to allow communities to gather natural
resource information that may be useful for long-term community and
resource planning. The program is flexible as volunteers monitor when
and where they wish and report their data online."
