River Conservationists and Enthusiasts will unite in Iowa
Falls
The Iowa River is considered the
3rd most endangered river in the United States by American Rivers, the only national river organization protecting river
quality and safety. The polluted condition of the Iowa River is a result
of unregulated agricultural and urban non-point runoff, failed septic
systems, and small rural communities without public waste treatment systems.
Iowa Rivers Revival advocates
that the state of Iowa aggressively implement and enforce Clean Water Act
provisions. Iowans must work together to prevent the deterioration of
Iowa rivers by demanding adequate protection from all pollutants including
non-point source runoff. Iowa Rivers Revival advocates for sustainable natural
resource funding to enhance our river ecosystems. Rivers are an essential
natural resource for all Iowans – providing many communities with
drinking water, recreational and economic opportunities, and habitats for many
native plant and animal species.
Iowa Rivers Revival will hold its 3rd Annual
Conference – “Rediscovering Our Rivers: Greenbelts, Habitats, Clean
Water and Fun,” April 4-6, 2008 in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Conference
participants will enjoy this historic scenic town along the Iowa River as they
learn about Iowa’s rivers and how to help promote and participate in
river conservation, advocacy and recreation efforts.
IRR has added the River Congress to this year’s
conference agenda in effort to bring together statewide watershed and river
advocates to develop an aggressive advocacy agenda for the 2009 legislative
session. The “Congress” will be a fun way to start to build a
network with others around the state and form an agenda we can all work to take
action upon next year.
Conference activities include a
Friday evening fundraiser and art auction at the Scenic City Boat Club from
5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Conference programming will take place all day
