Subject: Ames High Prairie Workday - Saturday, April 26th
Date: Tue, 22 Apr 2008 18:00:40 -0400
From: Laura Norian <lnorian@...>
Hello Ames High Prairie Friends and Volunteers:
If you have not committed to an Earth Day event already or know of
someone who is looking.... Come to Ames High Prairie and participate in
the Statewide 9th Annual Prairie Rescue being held in conjunction with
Earth Day.
Date/Time: Saturday, April 26th. 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m - Meet by the
Preserve Sign
We will start the day with a quick hike around the preserve to see
the prairie restoration work being done through collaboration with Story
County Conservation and through many hours of dedicated volunteer work.
We have made much progress towards reconnecting the isolated prairie
remnants on the west side of the preserve.
Volunteers will help spread prairie seed collected last fall by Paul and
Marsha Readhead. Other tasks for the day include: cutting and treating
honeysuckle and buckthorn, picking up trash and posting a sign-in box at
the preserve entrance.
Registration is not required, but if you are planning to come
please call the Iowa Field Office
515-244-5044 or email Laura Norian <mailto:lnorian@...> or Taryn
Samuels <mailto:tsamuels@...> - so we can plan accordingly. If you
need to reach us on Saturday, you can call the crew cell phone 515-371-8544.
Drinks and snacks will be provided throughout the day. Please dress for
the weather, wear sturdy shoes and bring your own gloves. We have some
hand tools, if you have a pair of loppers feel free to bring them
along. A link to this workday is posted on the front page of the Iowa
TNC website nature.org/iowa
Many thanks to all of those who have helped on previous workdays or who
will be out and about on other workdays this weekend.
If I have missed anyone you think would be interested, please pass this
information along.
