Volunteers - Just a few reminders about the IOWATER Snapshot Saturday.
Meet at Brookside Park at 9am. We'll be at or near the shelter just
north of the main parking area.
Bring a small cooler for your sample bottles. Ice will be provided.
When you leave the park you should have your site assignments, maps to
your sites (if needed), data sheets and bottles for each of your sites,
a cooler and ice to preserve the samples, a sample collection jug (if
needed for bridge sampling), instructions, and of course your IOWATER
test equipment.
At each site, be sure to record the same sample time for the Nitrogen
and bacteria sample bottles, and for the field data sheet. It works best
to mark the bottles BEFORE sampling.
When filling the sample bottles, avoid touching the inside of the bottle
and cap. Fill the bacteria sample tube at least to the 10ml mark,
leaving some air space. Fill the Nitrogen bottle to the shoulder area.
Do not overfill, but do not dump out the "extra". The Nitrogen bottle
contains sulfuric acid as a preservative.
Sampling instructions and other snapshot information is at:

And be sure to note existing human uses on your field data sheets! See
DNR Water Quality Standards at www.iowadnr.com/water/standards/index.html.
See you Saturday,
Rick
