Subject: An IRR River Review
Date: Thu, 5 Jun 2008 08:42:55 -0500
From: Iowa Rivers Revival <rlehman@...>

Good morning, IRR friends!

The month of May has brought growth and change to IRR. We are happy to
welcome five new Board Members (Rachel Glaza, Larry Gullett, Mary
Skopec, Mike Smith and Luke Wright) and one new Advisor (Rod Scott).
Each new member brings experience and passion to our organization that
will strengthen our efforts to keep moving IRR upstream.

Last week the Board met for a strategic planning session to develop an
organization plan to provide direction for our volunteers, supporters
and staff. Look for IRR across the state as we increase visibility and
work with communities and policy leaders to ensure clean rivers and
streams across the state of Iowa.

*Iowa Water Essay and Photography Contest*

To facilitate public discussion on Iowa’s water quality and promote
sound water-quality policy decisions, the Iowa Policy Project (IPP)
wants to gather Iowans’ stories and views on this issue. IPP is
requesting short, passionate essays from Iowans about Iowa’s water or
photos that tell their story. Prizes will be awarded to the top three
submissions in each category – first prize will be $500; second, $250;
and third $100.

IPP will combine several essays, recommendations, and photographs
(including the winners as well as other submissions) in a pamphlet with
an introduction about Iowa’s water quality and water quality policy. The
pamphlet would be printed by the IPP and distributed for use by the
media, public, other Iowa organizations and decision makers.
Additionally, the IPP may seek to place some individual essays in Iowa
newspapers or magazines. IPP intends for the resulting publication to
facilitates discussion and ultimately advances policy that will improve
Iowa’s water quality.

Submission deadline, July 11, 2008. For more information visit
www.iowapolicyproject.org/2008docs/080521-WaterContest.pdf or The
Iowa Policy Project (www.iowapolicyproject.org).
