First of all, THANK YOU to the 18 volunteers who were able to volunteer
part of their Saturday to help with the Squaw Creek Snapshot! We were
able to sample all 54 sites.
While we were out traipsing around in the creeks, Jean Dow and Dave
Kraemer were setting up an exhibit of photos and essays that I think
would interest all of you. Dave's announcement of the exhibit follows,
along with links to a new Iowa Outdoors website and an Ames Tribune
article about the construction of the HOIT bridge over the South Skunk
River near Cambridge..

Subject: [SRP Exec Board] Robin Fortney exhibit
Paddlers,
This weekend I had the pleasure of helping to hang Robin Fortney’s
photographs and essays exhibit celebrating rivers at the Gallery in the
Round at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1015 Hyland Ave., in Ames.
The fellowship is a registered art gallery, open to the public from 9
a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, or by appointment, 292-5960, and I would invite
you all to come savor this exhibit.
The work comprises 25 or 26 photos, most by Robin, but some by other
photographers, as well, plus 13 essays on river enjoyment, conservation
and stewardship. I know you will recognize many faces (maybe even your
own!). And you also will enjoy Robin’s deep appreciation of and personal
ethic built on moving water. This is truly a moving experience.
In particular, we will hold a reception for Robin from 5-7 p.m. Friday,
Nov. 7, at the Fellowship. In addition to the artwork, of course, we’ll
have refreshments and food.
Displayed along with Robin’s essays and images are ceramic vases and
pots by Ames artist Steve Aitchison.
It would be wonderful to make the reception a tour de force of Iowa
paddlers. Please consider coming to join us. Even if you can’t make the
reception, I’d highly recommend finding time to view the exhibit when
it’s convenient. The display will be up through Nov. 29.
Thanks,
Dave Kraemer
