Creek Chat Tomorrow-Tuesday March 10
The College Creek Restoration Project needs your help with decision-making about
wildlife, including amphibians. Project funding is available to improve or alter
existing habitat conditions near the stream. Tomorrow evening’s Chat will
focus on wildlife. Dr. Jim Pease (retired from ISU) will lead the Chat,
discussing both the potential for new habitat establishment as well as wildlife
/ people conflicts.
Please join us tomorrow evening to share your preferences about wildlife and
their habitat. We meet at the Ames Middle School Media Center from 6:30-8:00pm.

Summary of Birds Creek Chat - March 5th 2009
Dr. Jim Pease and his graduate student Cory Gregory discussed the variety of
birds within the creek corridor and habitat suggestions to enhance the corridor.
They suggest approximately 120 species of birds are likely using the stream
corridor in this neighborhood, especially migratory birds. Neighborhood
residents also recalled a wide variety of birds observed in the area. Habitat
enhancement suggestions included adding a diverse assemblage of landscape
structures – or areas with native over story trees, understory trees, a shrub
layer, and groundcovers all together, and also areas with only native
groundcovers. We video recorded this chat. Please email us to get a copy
digitally.
